The back three plugs?..argh.

Have you ever heard of anyone just changing the front 3?

I can't easily get to the back three with my basic tools as I"m always moving across the country with my crazy job.

What are the consequences? We bought it used at 102K and it is very obvious they are original.

Very bad idea, the rear cylinders run a little hotter so those plugs wear out quicker. It can also cause misfires and uneven cylinder firing, which could lead to the PCM detecting knock, causing more problems. The rears look like a daunting task, but with a wobble extension and a flex-head ratchet, they aren't that bad.

all you need is a regular ratchet, a short extension, and a spark plug socket. I have changed a lot of plugs on these motors and on the 3.8s and I can tell you that it isn't as bad as it looks. Make sure you get AC delco replacements and you should never need to worry about them again. Make sure the engine is cooled off as those are aluminum heads.

I thought if you removed the frount 2 engine stablizers(i think thats what they are called) the engine will tilt forward a little like the old 3.1 flat tops. I could be wrong.

you could always take your choice of plugs along with the coupon to the econo lube and tune and let them put them in for $49. i prefer to DIY as it's always a good excuse to buy more tools.

The question is, would you let some lub place with a kid tht does not know what he/she is doing? to do or not to do, that is the question. If i cant do it, i hate to say it, bring to a dealer or a trust worthy shop. But thats me.

i know what you mean. that's kinda the way it works at CompUsa or the other discount retailers with your computer under warranty, but every once in awhile i get "dad, youre such a dufus! let me show you" from my 15 yr old. usualy these shops have a sup who's seen a lot of GM products

change the front 3, disconnect the dog bones, put the car in neutral, let the engine "roll forward", apply the parking brake, change the back three, disengage the parking brake, with a snug push(helps if you have a helping hand, you should be able to push the engine back(with the car in neutral seems easier), once its back in position, hop in the car, throw it in park, reconnect the dog bones, easy as that...

Putting into N will not change anything. Park is fine. I did mine today.

I always roll my engine forward as described to get to the back three. Otherwise it's a skin & bloodfest.
