the goal= install a pair of 4 point harness over a pair of racing seats (preferably with out the aid of a harness bar, but by any means necessary)

the vehicle being used= 1999 3000gt (base model)

...... how would i go about doing this myself?:banghead:

You dont. The use of a 4 point harness without a cage is not only ricerish is stupid.

+3. 4pt harness without rollcage is dangerous.

To elaborate on the dangerous thing. You need a harness bar for the shoulders. If you mound your harness to the rear floor it will compress your back if you get in an accident. This can crush your spine. Do not do it.

This is true, but also a 4-pt. harness is going to keep you in the upright position in the event of a wreck. Now imagine rolling over in the wreck. A normal seatbelt would let you lean forward into the airbag, but a 4-pt harness would keep you sitting straight up, even if the roof collapsed on your head. This is why it is so dangerous to have a harness in your street car without a roll bar.

Bingo. Some people still tend to ignore that fact though.

Great simply great. now i discover this. I just purchased a 3000gt and they put in racing seats and the seats have 4 point harnesses attached threw the back seat. also they put a rally art racing steering wheel on there. i need to return it to stock wheel and see about seat. but i dont know if ill be able to afford regular seats yet. any suggestions how to UNinstall 4 point harness or maybe keep seats but reinstall seatbelts?

I wouldnt be concerned about putting the stock wheel back in. Airbags are overrated. As for the seatbelts I know people have used the stockers with racing seats, not sure how they went about it though.

Actually, an airbag is a nice thing to have. Trust me, I know.

To add to what everyone else has said, the other bad thing about a four point harness is the fact that it will allow you to "submarine" in an accident and slide out of the belt. Only go with a five or six point.

My suggestion, revert back to stock seatbelts.

I stand by my opinion of airbags being overrated. As long as you are properly wearing a seatbelt airbags shouldnt even touch you. Think of the millions of cars on the road that dont have airbags. I have been in two pretty bad accidents in cars without airbags. I walked away from both with no to very minor injuries. My friend locked his brakes up and slid into the rear of a truck at a stop sign. It was a low speed accident. The airbags still deployed and he was more injured by the airbag than I was in my two accidents combined.

I was in a highway speed addicent when a garbage truck turned my pralude into an acordian. car was totaled. no airbags . no injuries. the reason i wanna put the airbag back is insurance is already expensive enough without the minimalistic safty features. i am putting stock seatbelts back in (just purchased em and they are in the mail) the fact is i need my backseat and the 4 point really crowds it. im glad there isnt a passenger airbag though so i can look into a front seat car seat for my 5 year old.

I don't use a seatbelt, I mean honestly. The safest method is if I hit something, I do not want to smash my face into the steering wheel or anything. So I would prefer to fly out and land on my feet rather than bash my face :banghead:

You joke and i understand why your kidding but My dad was in an accident back in the late 50s in his familys plymoth delux and of his 7 family members only 2 excaped injury and those two were the two who werent wearing seatbelts and the whole seat flew out the car and they walked away, My grandfather suffered brain damage and my uncle is mentally retarded from that accident. my dad luckily only got a nasty gash on his neck and has a scar from it. Also my sister in law was in passenger seat when they rear ended a car (car was at stopsign but had no taillights so they didnt know it was stoped (at night poor visability ect ect) when she knew she was gonna hit it she threw her arms forward to brace herself , the airbag deployed and thrusted her arms strait up she ended up breaking her wrists elbows forarms in total 13 breaks including a collor bone all from the airbag deployment. if she hadnt put her arms up would have been alot less damage but they are dangerous is my point. The Best safety feature is a smart capable driver

interesting car choice if you plan on usung the back seat lol. I dont blame you, as there cars are irresistable, but have you ever gotten in the back of it? Hope your putting small people back there for short distances.

If my fiance thinks im getting rid of mine when we have kids, shes on crack. lol

congrats on the car though man and welcome to AF!

its my toy. I purchased it with the intent on the 4 door gashog intrepid as family car and 3000gt being the car i take when i got babysitter or wife is watching kids ect, i put them in the car to see if i could use it in cases of emergancy (like last time my intrepid needed starter took 4 days for them to know that and i need to move my kids around.

the only time i ever rode in the back seat of my car is when i drove a friend to a party and i got drunk. my friend had to drive it back and we ended up having to take some chick back to her house so i volunteered to ride in the back for some reason. getting out of the back seat of my car drunk is probably one of the hardest things i've ever had to do, lol.
