Hi:
I am thinking of purchasing used s60 or s80 of year 98 to 2001. Can you share what to look for and what seems to be most common issues these cars have.
Thanks in advance.

These are great cars! Our Ford dealer recently picked up the Volvo line and I am impressed.

First thing when buying a used Volvo is the timing belt! Have a reputable garage change it and maybe the water pump. These engines run forever, but if the timing belt breaks, it's all over since it's an interference motor.

If you hear "Clunking" noises over bumps, then the swaybar links are in need of replacement and is a common issue.

Take care of the car and keep up with maintenence! I have seen some of these models come into our shop with over 400,000 miles on the odemeter!

If I were you stay away from the 2001 models. The tranny is terrible problems for me.

If you choose to do so you'll be contributing to China's economy because they own Volvo now. They wont get my money anymore....Sold my S60 T and bought a A new Ford Taurus.
