Hello All,
Just a quick question. My ETC OFF light and CEL light came on today and I got the codes scanned. It came back with a P0440 code, EVAP failure. My mechanic said it could be the gas cap. He also mentioned that there is a little perge valve under the car that sometimed gets stuck open due to dirt. Any idea what this valve might be and where it would be located exactly/
Thanks to all
Dion

I actually only dropped in to get the codes reset until I put the car in next week for an oil change and to get my summer tires back on the rims. He told me the codes while he reset it.
By the way, your answer really didn't help me out?:uhoh:

In my personal experience, what you're describing almost always turns out to be a loose gas cap or someone taking the cap off while the engine is running. You should also make sure your gas cap isn't missing the rubber seal (or you could even just replace the cap for under $10). No matter what the cause, this code isn't usually something to lose sleep over.

I can understand why you would say that coming from your perspective, but coming from mine (having scanned/diagnosed hundreds of cars) it's most definitely not just some "myth".
It can also make a big difference what year vehicle it is (which he doesn't specifiy) because the standards have become increasingly less tolerant.
