Anyone install an antenna on their roof? I want to but need help in figuring how to drop the headliner.

Enough support up there? Or will it buckle the sheet metal? I could be wrong, but it seems like it's a little bit too thin up on top.

It's a 2 meter/70cm ham antenna. And it's pretty big, 40" high.

We installed something like that on my buddy's truck. We installed it at the front of the bed on a bracket. You might want to consider doing that, then you don't have to drill on the roof, and you don't have to have a 40" antenna on the top of your truck.

That sounds like a great idea...thank you very much!
Now I have another question...how do you get the overhead console down to mount a control head inside it?

there should be 1 phillips screw on the bottom towards the windshield and then just pull down and i will unsnap. they are tough clips may need to pull hard if gently pulling doesnt work

I do this all the time. Remove the clothes hooks and if you can, remove the interior light assembly. You'll thank yourself later. Just drill the hole in the roof, drop the interior light to get the coax started where you can access it good, and then after removing the laundry hooks pull slightly on the headliner. Its held in place with small velcro strips and will drop down so you can run the rest of the coax. Any more ?'s just ask. I do this at least 2 times a week mounting 2'way antennas.

I chickened out and went with a lip mount and a shorter antenna. The second picture is the control head.
