Hi everyone, newbie here. I have a 1990 thunderbird sc shell, which was an automatic on the floor. The 3.8 and AODE were gone before i got the car. I pulled the Engine and transmission out of my wrecked 1988 thunderbird, which is a 5.0L non-H.O. and i believe an AOD. I would like to install the V8 and go with a carburator set up instead of the EFI. have an intake from a 1985 Mustang gt and a holley 650 double pumper. I have a chance to get a T-5 if it would make the swap easier. Any advice on any problems i may run into, or things i will need to make the swap successful wold be greatly apprecited. For example, which wires would i be able to remove from the car, it looks like nothing has been cut.
Tnx,David

Your gonna need to get a donor for the manual tranny parts, I would beef the suspension up to handle the extra weight. Well the main thing I would tell you is to get some money lined up and make sure you have a spot you can tear the car down for a little while(I'm sure you do or wouldn't be thinking about it)
Well good luck and post any questions

The car has been sitting for a year or so already, and my brother kinda wants the thing out his backyard in the next couple weeks or so. And i go to school, so i have limited time to work on it, but its going good so far. So I guess i will go witht he AOD, seeing as i have the flexplate and converter. Would the transmission mount from the 3.8 transmission bolt up to my AOD with the 5.0L? Also would the brake system work normally after the new motor? Am i going to need an aftermarket distributor, or will the factory 5.0L one work?
Tnx for your reply and concerns, I greatly appreciate it. David
P.S. As you see from my situation, i am trying to get the car driveable, so my bro doesn't scrap it or something (lol he wouldn't do that). Figured carburation would make it easier, since the had DIS to begin with. I have a decent amount of funds, just as long as im not out there buying aluminum radiators and electric water pumps and what not. Cuz those are not essential to drive the car. I will post some pics of the engine and car s00n :grinyes:

Hi t-bird guys. I am farther in the swap now luckily. I have the 5.0 installed in the 90 sc shell with the aod all mounted up and the driveshaft installed. Like i said before i am planning to run a carburator, however i cannot find a distributor short enough to clear the stock hood.
Why is my engine sitting so high?:banghead:
I used mounts from a 92 5.0l bird and tranny mount also. I currently still have the stock efi distributor in and it does not clear the hood, so would i have to install a hood scoop?
I am also wondering what to do with the exhaust system, i would like to run true duels with headers:wink: and H or X pipe.
If anyone has any information about this swap that might be helpful it would be greatly appreciated.
TNX again,David

Here are the pics of the graveyard birdy :licka: Left hood off for too long lol gotta clean it up again. Idiot cut a hole in it for a stupid CAI or something. I have a bumper from a regular 90 SC, the one that says SC on it, and the lights but i need a new header panel or whatever the lights bolt to. Anyone got a distributor i could buy or some real headers not the b.s. ones that ford used on the mn 12 302's. Let me know pls i am trying to get her running before the snow cuz then its back here for it, no more salt going on this one. :nono: You see the Stang is ready for hibernation:p

I don't know anything about this type of swap but my question would be- are the mounts from a '90 Tbird with a 5.0 the same as a '92?

i beleive so but these engines werent meant to have carbs. my stock car had the 302 sitting as low as i could get it and still had hood clearance issues my carb stuck above the hood without the air cleaner. as for the distributor u might check on a low profile one from msd or smaller hei unit(yes they make them if you dont already know)
