Hey guys I am in the middle of this 6 bolt swap and I have the Oil Filter housing for the 6 bolt but it doesnt have an oil cooler on it. Does anyone know if the one off of my 2G will work?
If not I am looking at external oil coolers. Do I have to use one of those things that go between the filter and the housing or is there a way to run lines right off of the housing itself to the oil cooler and then back. I know that sounds confusing but I will post pics when I can to try and elaborate more on that part.

You mean you have the correct oil filter housing to accomadate an external oil cooler but you would rather use the 2g line that just goes out and to the front and back? If so, then possibly... You need the proper fittings to adapt it to the oil filter housing and you can do that. If not, then I'm confused. lol

Those external oil coolers are not good if it gets really cold by you. Although you're in Cali right? Nevermind then. But I believe the quickest way to do that (and probably the best) is with one of those sandwich adaptors.

I think I have the fittings if I am looking at the houing right...I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them to see if I have it right....

Thats right, those are for the oil cooler... You can have a NPT fitting that adapts to AN line and then you can connect that to the 2g cooler lines if you put the correct AN fitting off the 2g cooler lines also... Why wouldn't you just run a normal oil cooler though?

Ok cool...I am just going to run an external one...not sure where to put it yet...I wanted to put it on the drivers side right next to where the filter is and have a similar setup to how the smic is on the other side but I dont know is there is enough room there...

Oh theres a good bit of room there if you mount it right. I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures of how/where I'm mounting mine on there.

Ok sweet man...where did you get your oil cooler...I was looking on summit and they have a ton of them in all differant sizes...

Well I haven't decided yet which one to get... The easiest and cheapest route would be for me to go with this one...

Of course, I have really been thinking about this one. It costs more but it will keep things running a lot cooler. Cooler fluids = less wear and tear on internals... Also its slightly smaller, so it'll be easier to mount. So I'm trying to decide if I should invest this little bit of extra money now to better prolong the life of my motor...

I haven't decided yet... I really don't feel like dumping a ton of more money into little things like that... But... Who knows... I'm sparatic sometimes...

Well I would rather get the one with the fan now...cause I know that if I dont then I will have to buy a fan later or a whole new oil cooler...Plus taking my car out on Buttonwillow's track when it is like 100 degrees outside...I should get the best cooler I can...

im in the same boat as NOFX here, except my 6 bolt swap is not by choice. im just trying to get some clarification though. it is more than obvious that my oil filter housing will not fit on a 6 bolt, since mine is a 97 gsx engine. the oil cooler on the 7 bolt housing seperates though. is there any kind of bolt on adapter to make it work? is an external oil cooler the only alternative? if so where are the current cooling lines to the turbo supposed to go?

Uhh... You lost me a bit in all that... The way I'm understanding it is that you have a 6 bolt with a 7 bolt oil filter housing? Is that what you said? If so, its not gonna work... If I'm wrong, well I donno what your saying then. lol
As far as coolant lines for the turbos go. You can block any of those lines off with a bolt so you don't have to use them.

yes...i previously had a 7 bolt, had purchased a 7 bolt and got a 6 bolt. so all the parts I have will not fit on the 6 bolt, since all I got with the 6 bolt is the head and block. the engine is from a 91 gs, so my the majority of my parts are not compatible. the oil filter housing is one I am still trying to figure out what to do with. I want to some how rig it to fit, just how it did on my original motor. I still want to use an oil cooler, but I wanted to use the one I already have. I pulled the cooler off the housing, which is held on by the double threaded pipe, not compatible with the 1g. I want my car to work exactly as it did before.

Some 6 bolt oil filter housings have the correct hookups for an external oil cooler and some don't. I would try and find one from a 90 and use it.
