Man, when is it going to end ?? Shortly before Christmas the steering started to act up on my truck. Took it in and it turned out that the steering box was shot. They also found out that the right front bearings were shot as well as one of the inner tie rod ends. That all replaced, an alignment and oil change later I was roughly $1500 shorter in my bank account. Then just after Christmas the ride got extremely rough and upon inspection I found that something was wrong with the rear shocks and they were not compressing past ride height. A trip to Ukrainian tire and a few beers later I was roughly $200 shorter in my account.
We then come to the middle of January and the heat starts acting up like it is low on coolant although it is not. Back to the garage it goes. Thermostat is shot and heater core is plugged up a bit PLUS they find that the rear brakes are toast. New calipers, rotors, pads, thermostat and cooling system flush. Another roughly $1000 less in my account now. A few weeks ago I started noticing a whining noise and, started thinking trans, great :uhoh: although it almost sounds like a wheel bearing. Back to the shop. They road test it , listen to it on the hoist and inform me that it sounds more like crown and pinion noise to them, no charge but off to a speciality shop I go. They road test it at the other shop and tell me just what I thought that it might be, a bearing and quite possibly the pinion bearing. They tell me that they even have time and can do it today for me, great I think, it does not sound too bad and will be a quick fix........... wrong :banghead: :banghead:
They had it almost apart before my ride showed up so the mechanic called me to the back and got me to turn the pinion and I will tell you that I have never felt a bearing that rough in my life. But he also tells me that one axle bearing was shot and it chewed up the axle a bit, he may have a good used one kicking around but will check on that. Also he informs me and shows me the odd wear marks on the other axle........ it's bent :banghead: :banghead:
He says that he will polish the one axle and may be able to save it but he is not sure but will call me later. I get the call about 2 pm, 2 new axles are needed, new pinion bearing and seals, new axle bearings and seals, re-set the preload and backlash, new gear oil and additive later and I am once again short about $1200 in my account. Almost $4000 in the last 3 months roughly:eek: but I must admit I still love it. Hell after getting it home from the trans shop today I took it to the car wash had it cleaned inside and out, then took it home and detailed it and gave it a wax job as well LOL.
Sorry for such a long post guys, but I just needed to vent.

Well, first let me say that I am sorry all that fell apart at once. Second, I would like to say that it sounds like mostly routine type things (though some were a bit extreme) and, unfortunately, they did happen all at once, but now you should probably be good for another 7 or so years with no more suspension related woes on your truck.
Plus, be proud that what you're riding on is all practically new.
Sorry... but congrats. Sort of.

I can't believe you're having so many problems. I'm sorry man.
How many miles are you up to?
It's funny you mention $4K in 3 months. My friend had just spent the same amount, well $3K, and said he'd rather constantly have a truck payment than throw money in the pit. So he got a newer truck. I believe an '06 Z71 with 15K miles or so.
But he drives an obscene amount of miles every month due to his job.
Good luck.

I'm doing about 150 or so for work per day. I hate that.

Wow. I'm not sure how far he drives exactly. Probably around the same.
He's a superintendent for a construction company and his job site changes every few months.
