Help!!!

I need help, I got my 91 3000gt sl auto about a year ago, for the first few weeks it ran great, then when I was driveing to my fiance's house the engine jumped, reved, and made me feel like I was going to be thrown out the window. It does it more when your off the gas. Well, since then, in a year, I've had the doors rewired, (the alarm keep going off), had a 45 cent bolt replaced when my gear shift decided to die and had to be towed home .2 miles away, (that was a nice bill)... I've had the engine mount replaced or fixed, had the end cluch replaced when my overdive went out, had my motor on my window replaced when it stopped working, had two of my struts replace, had the recall done, had all the plugs replaced, and had my brake pad tightened. And still, my ac has stopped working right, the car still jumps, you can be driving down the highway and all of a sudden don't have power from with the gas anymore,(you have to stop and turn the car off for a few minutes and it will start working again), and just started to "not go in gear", we were at the drive though and put in it park, went to go, and put it in drive and the engine just reved. And it has done that more then once. :banghead: The one thing I havn't done is check the ECU.
Now, I don't know what to do, take the money and get a new tranny and everything? Or, take the money and get a new car that might have problems with it... What should I do? (Any Ideas what may be wrong besides the tranny? :2cents:)
Thanks for any help. :)

I had the same kind of thing happen to me and you might want to have your differential checked out. The gear could be worn and are slipping. With the shifter problem you might want to check the shifter cable because i worked on a car where all it need was a new cable to make the car shift perfectly.
I hope that this gives you some new ideas.
good luck

Since you haven't checked your ECU yet, go ahead and check your ECU for leaking capacitors.

Ok, now, I started "going into neutral" while I was driving to work (that was fun... ) I came home and went to check the fluid, it was fine, but I noticed that there was a "weed wackier" like sound coming from my engine, could what was mentioned still be the problem? Or is it likely my tranny? :banghead: :banghead: Help? :disappoin

You getting a check engine light? Have you checked your ECU caps? Weed wacker sound could just be an exhaust leak....impossible for us to tell without hearing it.
With all that is going wrong I would really assume the ECU or the TCU would be throwing codes.

Thanks.:) I guess, I could have explained it a little better..lol No engine light, and my finance said it sounded like friction, It's coming from my engine, maybe left side? It happens in neutral, in reverse, and in drive (sometimes)... To me it kind of sounds like gears grinding... Also, when I turn the car on and take it from park to drive, my foot still on the brake, the engine revs a little, pauses, the lights dim and then it goes into drive... I really hope it's my ECU...:disappoin I love my car.
Also, this is all with the overdrive off, i havn't checked if it happnes with it on yet... If they didn't install my endcluch right, it wouldn't happen with the over drive off, would it?

Oh, it also almost dies going from park to drive, or reverse...:shakehead The lights dim, engine quiets, then it goes into the gear...
(I'm going to try to check my ECU this week, i just want to know if this COULD ALL be from a bad ECU...:( )

I just took my ECU out, and it IS leaking a little from the 16V capactior, now, do I buy a new one, or, send it in and have AVpro repair it?

You can send it in, however if you know someone who is pretty good at soldering components on circuit boards then you could have him/her do it. Doesn't take very long if you have a good soldering iron, bench vise, and a solder sucker.

That sounds like the tranny. When my tranny went out it had those exact symptoms like when it kills putting it into drive or reverse along with the weird noises. If I were you, I would take it to a trustworthy transmission mechanic just for a diagnosis. Hope everything works out ok.

Yeah, I talked to the guy at AZPro and he said that it wasn't from my ECU or TCU. I think thats what I'm going to do, I found a cerified transmission repair shop here in Colorado, the will do a free diagnostic and I will go from there, I am going to send in my ECU though, since it is leaking. Thanks for the imput, it's comforting to know someone had the same problem as I'm having, I was just afraid that's not all that's wrong with it... still am a little... Thanks. ^^

Definitely sounds like a tranny problem. I'm not sure how many miles are on your car, but I would bet the clutches are finally wearing out of material. It sounds like rebuild or replace time.

right, the tranny problems wouldn't result from a faulty ECU, however, if the capacitors are leaking, they would still need to be replaced anyways.

I had a guy we know who also works for a shop take my car to work with him the other day, when he first drove it around he was confused on what is might be, so he took to a second day and had some other guys look at it, they thought, like me it was the tranny, however, when they took the pan/lid (Not sure which one) off there wasn’t any iron or metallic residue so, the tranny is fine!! And it's also a newer tranny! Anyway, he took my car apart and cleaned the valves up real good, flushed the tranny fluid and gave it a new filter, and it's running great again!! YAY!! However it still has some problems, sometimes, when you get to get on the interstate you can get up to about 65 but you have no power to go any faster. You pull off to the side of the road, and turn the car off.... sit... Turn it back on, and bam, you have power again. Now this MAY be my leaking capacitor. It also still bang shifts sometimes. Don't know if the AC works now or not... :screwy:
Anyways, he said that there as been a TON of stuff put on this car and they did a rather careless job to take it off when they went to sell it, it has a OLD remote start and also has downshift switches. I've afraid this car has been abused... *Sigh*
Oh, anyone know why my tour and spot light blink??
(One more question, is it normal for ONE back side panel, the spoiler and the bumper to fade more then the rest of the car?? Also on that same side one of the triangles in the middle of both windows is broken and has some sort of black tape on it, you can see it’s broken though. Accident not reported?)
Heh, thanks for the read. ^^

could be a few things. easiest to check;
do you have aftermarket struts?
are all the connectors under the covers on top of the strut towers connected and not damaged?
is the ECS computer (in the hatch on the passenger's side IIRC) plugged in?
Fuse?
bad ECS computer?

It only blinks SOMETIMES so I don't think it's a fuse... I could be the computer, I havn't taken that one out yet...
Conectors: As far as I know are not damaged.
Struts: Not that I know of, I just had two or three replaced by Misubishi so I don't think that's the problem... :screwy: Lol

Mine has been doing that more and more recently as well. Almost as often as it dumps another tranny. I think after age the computer does it more and more often.

If it's intermittent, I'd think bad wiring. Check the wires on teh top of your struts.

Hmm... Yeah, that would make sense, the last owner really didn't know what he was doing when it came to wireing somthing... I've recently found out that this car as had ALOT done to it in the years... It still has the down shift switches under the dash(I don't think they work anymore)...And the exhaust has been redone under the car.

yea, i know a couple of local 3/Ser's who practically destroy 3/S's. They think they know how to work on them when they actually mess things up. I try to get the word out to the 3/S owners i meet locally and tell them to not let these people work on their cars. Poor cars.

We Just found out (most likely) why my power has been so bad sometimes we I go to get on the interstate, My new mehanic said it's the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) So I'm ordering one OEM online.
But Would this have anything to do with why my car as been jumping? I thought the throttle body delt with Ignition timing, fuel, air and stuff like that. Not anything to do with shifting. (It downshifts, then shifts back up REALLY hard, really fast. [feels like you going to be thrown though the windshield.])
He also was looking though my papers from misubish, to see what they have done to the car, and they charged me 4 hours of labor and did nothing from what he and another mehanic could see, what they were soposed to have worked on was never opened. Along with charging me $60.00 for a tranny flush, no more then 100 miles ago from the time he did one and he said it was really dirty and hadn't been flushed. :banghead::banghead: Ofcorse Misubishi say other wise, I should have know better when I asked them to check the capacitors in my ECU and they said the only capacitors in the car when in the radio. Even I know that's not true, I just said, fine. Then took it out myself later to find one was leaking. He says "Oh my guy are professionals" well the definition of professional is simply geting paid for what you do.
God, I make the worst choices. :headshake

If you ECS light start flashing again try the procedure outlined in the pdf link I have included.
http://turbostealth.home.att.net/host/ecs_codes.pdf
You have a 1G so you only need an analogue voltmeter to do the test. Using a digital voltmeter makes it very difficult to pull the codes.
Hope this helps.
