I've been trying to diagnose this car for a week now. Was running fine, @55 mph engine cut out for 1-2 secs, then fine. 2 miles down the road, stopped at a light, engine seemed to surge for 1-2 secs, then fine. Next nite, 2 miles down the road, car died.. finally restarted after 5 mins.. got it home and it hasn't started since. Checked spark, fine. Checked fuel pressure, fine. Checked fuses and grounds, all good. Tried some ether, which did fire. Pulled a plug, looks good, but not wet. Battery fully charged, cranks great.
Only thing I've changed so far is the fuel filter, but I'm thinking from the way it was acting it's probably electrical. Got a rental scanner from autozone, but it would not link. OBDII plug, but not sure which computer it's connected to.
The car only has 69,000 miles, love it, but I am about to fix'er good with the big hammer. Just thougt I'd check with ya'll first. Anybody out there that has a clue, or know where I can find one at a reasonable price?

Did you check for spark from all three coils?
Test for fuel injector pulse.

Thanks for the quick response. Definitely got great spark from all 3 coils. The local autozone didn't have a noid light. Tried a regular 12v test light, with no luck. Guess I'll have to shop around tomorrow, somebody has one somewhere.

Surge/loping. Have seen this in 2 previous cars (Non-GM)and it was the throttle position sensor, altho' it was persistant and not irregular. One died at 120,000 kms, and the other at 150,00kms.
Not starting could be related to engine coolant sensor. According to Tech manager at my local repair shop it replaced the old style choke. All news to me.
Good luck

Finally found a light and tested for fuel injector pulse, got nothing. Any good suggestions on how to pinpoint the problem? This is my backup car, I have the time to fiddle with it, and I would really like to get it the heck outta my garage under it's own power. :licka:

Two main things that control injector pulses are; the BCM & PCM. The BCM depends on correct feedback from the Passkey system in order to supply the feedback to the PCM that all TDM points are checked and the engine is ready to start. If the TDM sends only partial information to the BCM, the engine may turn over and not start, hence no injector pulse. First, be sure the security light is not flashing when you attempt to start the engine. If it is flashing, you have a security issue. If not, suspect the PCM! Also, be sure to clean the ignition "key chip" (resistor) with a pencil eraser, or "Q" tip and alcohol, prior to starting!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions, today being the first 70+ day around here, I decided to take another crack at it. Since it's apparently electrical, I proceeded by wigglying the crap outta every connection to everything on the top of the motor. Took an eraser to the chip on the key, jumped in and cranked.. nothing. Turned key off, removed, reinserted and cranked again... of course, it started after a few seconds,:screwy: After about a min, it cut for a split sec, and resumed purring like a kitten. Turned it off, immediately opened garage door, and backed it out, and since it was covered with sawdust, cause it hasn't started in 2 mos, and I still need my garage, I powerwashed it. Naturally, it wouldn't start after that, poped hood, (nothing wet) wiggled wires again, finally starts after considerable cranking. I let her idle, after about 5 mins it starts to cut out, to the point the idiot lights would come on, then catch suddenly and idle higher for afew secs, gradually coming back down. Did that 4 or 5 times, finally stalling. After considerable cranking got er going again, backed out on the street and let it idle for about 10 mins, while I cleaned up, but just as I was about to jump in and take it out on the road, another identical lesabre happened to go by, on a rollback flatbed. I had a good laugh, and reconsidered the possible consequences. Shut er off and restarted half dozen times, no problem, but clearly one should not just ignore certain signs.:nono: Obviously, it ain't quite fixed yet, too easy. Any more suggestions, or thoughts, thanks!

Throttle position sensor can cause no fuel injector pulse if the voltage is too high. This can be checked with a voltmeter.
