'99 Rodeo 3.2 - Wheel Bearings

For the past couple of months my Rodeo has been shaking/vibrating a bit at highway speeds. It also makes a humming or wobbling sound when driving at any speed and seems to be worse when coasting.

I have had the tires balanced twice (once using the road force) and also had an alignment done.

The last mechanic I took it to was pretty sure it's the wheel bearings, but had me take it to get it aligned first to make sure it wasn't that. The right front wheel seemed to be out of alignment, but fixing that did not stop the sound/vibration.

The ABS light is also on at this point.

My question is - how safe it is to drive for the next two weeks? I don't have the money for the wheel bearing work until two weeks from today.

There isn't a grinding or metal on metal sound to it at this point.

How old are your tires?

it's nigh impossible to make a diagnosis from here, but from what you've said it doesn't sound good. if it is as bad as it sounds then you could make it *much* worse dollar wise by totally f-ing up the hub the bearing sits in if it is that bad and gets humongous hot and metal races and bearing material starts fusing together.

but there is a simple test -- did your mechanic/andor alignment tech do it? -- namely jack up the front and pullandpush the tireswheels with your hands first at 6 and 12; and then at 3 and 9 o'clock. this will show you how bad it is, especially comparing one side good to the other side bad. and will also separate wheel bearing problems from other frontend problems.

also turn the bad side and listen. you can tell alot. report back
