How to keep the exhaust quiet

Hi guys, i'm gonna need your help. I have honda civic dx 2000 with modified exhaust which came along with the car when I bought it. The problem is the cop think it has exessive noise therefore, I got a ticket this morning. I personally don't think it loud as compare to many other car with modified exhaust. But just because the look of my car, cop hated therefore, they have to write a ticket for something.

Now my question is....have you guys ever got a ticket for something like this before? If so, do you appeal it or just pay it? If you appealed, did you success?

My second question is what can I do to keep the exhaust be quiet and how much does it cost to do it?

My friend got a ticket for a loud exhaust (he was revving the engine really loud) but the ticket got dropped by the judge. But yes, it's possible that you may have to replace your exhaust though.

Either don't drive fast, or get a stock muffler from your local junkyard. Most shops will install a muffler for a small fee.

Where can I get information on massachusetts law about excessive noise? I don't think i'm going to fight with the ticket because I have nothing to prove.

Usually there is a dB limit. Im not sure but I think I read it was 96dB?? Youll have to look at your state's laws. If you can prove that your car doesnt exceed the limit then you may be able to win. Or if the guy doesnt show up.

Massachusetts Bill to Ban the Sale/Installation of Aftermarket Exhaust Systems Is Back . . . Again
After being stalled for the last several years, a bill (H.B. 3574) to ban the sale or installation of “an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust” has been reintroduced by Rep. Liz Malia ([email protected]). The bill excludes limited-use “antique motor cars” from its scope - a clear attempt by the bill’s sponsor to divide the automobile hobby in an effort to gain clearer sailing for this restrictive and damaging piece of legislation. H.B. 3574 has been referred to the Joint Transportation Committee.

Technically, it doesnt increase the noise, It just doesnt muffle it as much. How about a bill that actually matters like restricting the use of high emission vehicles such as pick ups and SUVs.

I don't want to run into trouble with the cop again so I replaced it with aftermarket direct fit muffler. Now the car run so quiet. The only thing that I don't like about it is the muffler no longer look aggressive. Now I will have to find exhaust tip to put it on so it look little nicer.

By the way, don't tell the cop that my exhaust have no cat converter :iceslolan
