2002 vert can't remove map light bulb?

I have a dead map light bulb in the review mirror housing of a 2002 vert GT. I can't seem to get the bulb out. I assume it's a bayonet style socket that has to be pushed in and turned, but it just won't budge.

It feels like the glass is trying to separate from the metal base so I'm afraid to put much more pressure on it.

Any help would be much appreciated.
