325i Codes

Replaced engine at 88,000 miles with a 77,000 mile engine. Exhaust was filled with old oil from previous engine. Got it cleared out and I have 2 codes that are P1188 and P1189 which are manufacturer control fuel and air metering that constantly stay on. If it idles for any length of time we have 2 codes of P0173 and P0175 which is fuel trim and will pick up misfire detected 4, 5, and 6. If you clear the codes out, it runs fine until it resets. What to do?

Bring it to the place you had the motor replaced with, tell them your throwing codes. Give them a run down, and see what they say. If you are only throwing out codes, and the car seems to run fine...nah, I'd still get it checked.

The first two codes could very well be some loose conections. On another board, a member threw a P1188/89 with a MAF getting loose/going bad. If your lucky, you'll only need to tighten down. If its going bad, its gonna run you about $1500 to fix, at least from a dealer. Could be wrong, but I believe that is your problem with the first two codes.

This would ineveitably lead to your second set of codes. On the E46, according to E46Fanatics, the P0173 code is your fuel trim being off, and the P0175 is your running too rich in your A/F Ratio. If your motor is thinking its getting a certain amount of air cuz your MAF is off kilter, then its gonna add more fuel. Hence, you run rich. I think the MAF fix should solve this problem.

I'll leave this to Rob, since he owns a 325i himself.

Lol, it's not like there is much left to say after your first post, anyhow.

EDIT: I just noticed my posts say 330... Maybe I'll stop posting now...
