This is a topic I've thought about for awhile now. Are all computer viruses man-made? If so, who are these low-lives that have nothing better to do than cause problems for other people? If I had a virus on my PC this thread would be better of in the Stress Release forum:) but I don't.

They're low lifes with nothing better to do...

Sometimes they're fun, if they're harmless ish. I set one off in my nack in the day. Didn't do anything bad, but cause problems for a day or two. My friend actually made it, But i had the guts and access to set it off right.

Yea, the harmless ones are fun. I could set one off here at school if I wanted to, I know a lot of the admin passwords. Viruses suck, but w/e, I'm surprised I havent had one yet, I have been running without a firewall, AV, and anti-spyware for a while now. Just installed them yesterday and ran them, found no viruses, but lots of spyware - cookies.

There are some that people made that Make your screen go dark, and you have to do something to get it back, they do annoying little things to piss people off. I personally haven't done it, but have friends who do that kinda stuff. It's funny to watch.

I wrote one which ejects the CD tray at random times. It was a prank on a friend. ;)

Besides that, I was a low life  who wrote viruses and tested them on my old PC (never circulated them anywhere). It was for fun and good learning.

I wonder if someone's doing that to me:) I don't have that issue but I have a couple. Have you read my thread about "wireless"? I'm actually having issues with my dialup (stop laughing). Sometimes it connects, sometimes not. Right now I'm online, but it shows a big red X over the 2computers icon. I'm actually seeing the wireless icon (one computer) for the first time in a while. Oh well.

the two computers icon usually doesn't have the X when I'm connected to the internet. (dialup). Assuming you're right, there is usually an icon that shows when I'm connected, now it's not there. The setting even says to show when it's connected to the internet. I just saw an ad for DSL through your satellite dish, I might switch to that, if I can afford the $50/month

I would say that it shows the 2 computers because you are hooked up to the internet with the modem, you use an internal modem for dial up so you are connected. I have dsl through our phone company, I hate it, but then Aliance sucks anyway, Its really slow...
