Hey i am just wondering about this thing i saw online. Performance chip that is supposed to replace the factory installed one and add HP to your car. I was just wondering how safe it is to do so. I saw them on ebay and they are pretty cheap. does anyone have them and what do you think of it.

they're completely garbage...the only way to add power to your car by way of the ECU is through tuning....you would need a few parts in order to do that, but for the cost, the gain is minimal unless you have the modifications to back it....when i got tuned, the tuning was $400, the ECU and harness were another $250...just to give you an idea, but i did make 275whp :D

Yea i am planning to tune my car, but not right now, litle short on cash. Thats why i was thinking about the chip as a quick cheap solution. I also heard that it can damage your cars computer, is that true?

yes that is true and they all they are is just a resistor from radio shack (pennies of cost) and two wires. Please dont look for those easy hp things, especially on ebay. there are exhausts that cost $20 and add 8-10 hp (yea rite) and this "ecu chip" may cost them like $1-$2 to make and notice how they change their accounts on ebay alot. Thats due to the complaints and bad ratings (dont be fooled because even the worst rip offs on ebay will have ratings of 95%+) back to the chip- 10 dollars for 15-20 hp and same amount of torque, yea rite. haha what a joke. some even have 24-7 tech support, try calling them before you buy your item. hope this helps. THOSE CHIPS ARE HORRIBLE

Ebay car parts are a disaster...especially anything turbo related...

No it will not produce a thing, and most are scams. Save your money for a swap or just go the usual route of I/H/E and add a bottle with a small shot if you want a kick. The d17 SOHC motor in your car is not made for crazy power. Even adding a very expensive turbo will not produce results seen on the K motors found in the SI models. There are many threads that go over this again and again.
