replacing radio antenna

Could anyone tell me if I can replace the motor driven antenna with a flexible antenna?I have a 2002 Montero.....

Or how can I just unhook the motor from coming on when the radio is turned on.... I have broken the antenna and the cost of replacement is $200.00... This truck as the antenna in the window also... So I am thinking if I could deactivate the motor, it would just work off the window antenna...
