EV Conversion

Hey,
I'm looking into doing an Electric Vehicle conversion to an older car, but before I dive in I'd like to get some information. Hopefully this forum can help.
I'm looking for a well built, light, stylish car that isn't too expensive. Hopefully I won't be spending more than $1,000 or $2,000 dollars on the car. It doesn't have to look pretty at first---I just want a good solid car that, without the engine, will be relatively light, and safe (so I don't get crushed in a car accident). Do you guys have any recommendations for a good looking, safe car that will be fairly lightweight when the engines removed? I'm not picky---pretty much anything will work, but I'm more prone to go the sporty /muscly route (Datsun Z's, Mustangs, Camaro).
Have any of you ever done an EV Conversion? I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the board is into ICE Cars, but there has to be someone on here who's interested! I can definitely use some advice.
Any reservations or words of warning would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
