astra not running correctly

my girlfriend has got a 1999 1.4 astra and it wont keep on running it starts up and tick over is unsteady and soon as u touch the peddle it cuts out theres no power can any one help me plz ?

Get a mechanic to plug in their diagnostic ECU(called OBDII) which will scan the computer for problems. Sounds like fuel pump, fuel filter or most likely, the camshaft position sensor(sensor is common for failure)

Theres no way of knowing for certain with out it being on a tech 2 or simualr scanner, I'm a vauxhall technican and see loads of astras weekly, the most common problem with the sypmtons you have discribed is a egr valve sticking open or shut more likey open weakening the mixture causing a stall. you didn't say if it was a 8v or a 16v.on the 8v engines there is a software download to disable the egr completely as they cause more trouble than they are worth,but as i said there is no way of knowing unless you have it scanned it would cost approx £60 from you local dealer probably cheaper elsewhere.
