I've heard that snap-on sells a scanner, but it's like $3K USD!!! CRAZY $...

You're best off getting a factory service manual (FSM) and a volt/ohm meter. About $110 USD total.

Get the meter from advance or wherever, then buy the FSM for your year and it will tell you what connections on the two diagnostic ports under the hood to probe for which tests.

You probably won't need a scan tool for an 87..a 97 ..yes.

There is a connector to the left of the fuse box in my '87 is that the one to scan?

Should be under the hood if I remember right, by the fender.
