Which 350 do you have? Chevy? Pontiac? Olds? Buick? They are NOT all the same for "rocker adjustment", some of them are not adjustable. A 1970 SHOULD have a Pontiac 350 in it (unless someone swapped it out) and they are NOT a small block and the valve lash is NOT adjustable like some engines. The rockers are held down with a bolt that gets torqued. The rocker "stud" is cast into the heads and the rocker "ball" is then machined into the top of the stud.

No need to apoligize. The procedure you gave is correct and might be what he needs if someone put a SBC in that car.
There's no need to apologize for trying to help someone.

Ok, you need a torque wrench to make sure you get it right. You should be able to rent one from a parts store. The torque is 20 ft/lbs. Check this page for most of your torque specs. http://boxwrench.net/specs/pont_265-455.htm
BTW, Pontiac's engines aren't smallblocks, nor are they bigblocks. All of their engines had the same external dimensions...which were close to a bigblock chevy.
