I have a hard choice to make, please give me as much feedback as possible - im very blocked up right now as to which way to go... D16Z6 92 civic si SOHC Vtec -OR- ZC DOHC non-Vtec.... ??? I believe the ZC has about a 10hp increase, 2 cams but no beloved VTEC. The Z6 is said to be more user friendly.... which would you go for?? keeping in mind that i only need my car as a daily driver but i'm an HP fiend that doesn't like wasting money lol. Which would you choose and why?? thanks alot.

Z6 - easy pick - for regular maintainance and stuff the Z6 is better plus imo more reliable. You can't go into a parts store and tell them you need a timing belt for a ZC motor - they won't know what you are talking about. That motor has parts from like 5 different other motors. The z6 is pretty much the best d series motor that honda ever built - it's got the strongest bottom end and a very good head. Personally that's what I would choose.

i also vote for the z6. 4g4d made some very good points.

So seeing how i saved 200 dollars but lost ~10hp, could i use that $200 towards engine parts alone to get 10 or more ponies out of the Z6? sorry im a total engine noob:confused: haha

Ok whats 10hp? Not much thats what. As 4g4d stated, ZC parts are a pain in the rear to get. Not much aftermarket stuff for those either. d16z6 parts are available everywhere. ZC blows easily. Mainly because the motor is already old and probably been sitting around for a good while which means you need to change the gaskets/belts/pump etc... Don't waste your time on one. You're going to have trouble finding parts.

I really don't see you getting 10hp out of a zc motor for 200 bucks.

yea, i just told my friend that i'll buy his cousins' Z6, whole motor without ECU for $350can, but i'm selling the hydro tranny and he said the intake doesnt match up to the crx...? so i'll most likely be selling that too. The weather is a bitch up here in toronto, it makes working on your car outside a pain... especially when you live in a ghetto black area, it's kinda awkward... haha(i park it outside cause Park in the Garage = car broken into)

Why not get the ecu? Manifold will fit! Just convert it to obd1. And about the "ghetto black area" some ppl might find that offensive. ;)

I know about rep'n about the place your from. Im from Chicago and I still dont generalize.
I would. Theres a conversion kit to make your stock ecu work with your set up. Search it on this forum or honda-tech. Its been talked about quite a few times and it has plenty of info.

Not to be too offensive or anything... but do you like your car?
If so... it doesn't sound like you should be the person attempting to do your motor swap. You should either already know what you're going to be doing, or be able to search the rest of the internet out for the info you need... the knowledge to do it all is already out there, and has been for a long long time... Search is your friend.
But besides that, you don't sound very savy to what you'd be doing... and unless you want to screw up your car and have to pay someone a lot of money to get it running again, you should probably contact a pro to do it for you from the get go.
Again... I don't mean to be mean... but you really should think about this more before you ever attempt it yourself.

:gives:
I'm just warning you of the dangers of what you're wanting to do.
But if you can't use a simple search engine (http://www.google.com/) to find information that is already all over the net, you can't swap an engine.

Ok, Killa Crx wasn't trying to be disrespectful. And I believe he stated that.If anything, you're the one whos coming off to be harsh. He's giving you some advice and I agree with him. I've been a member on here for 6 years. Trust me, you'll find alot of info on this certain subject of yours. Do not rush to modify your car. It takes time and patience. Do extensive research on it. Once you get that done, you'll be able to make the decision easier. You'll probably end up going in a different route. :)

holy crap... can we just drop this already? I already did as much research as I could and still things weren't all that clear to me so this was my last resort. An admin really needs to close this thread, it's going nowhere, I already bought the motor...
