my silverado 2500HD with 6.0 has no reverse. my dad was plowing with it and had gotten stuck. he went forward and backwords trying to get out and heated the tranny up to past 250 degrees. the truck would engage into reverse and spin then after the shut the truck off and turned it back on it would engage into reverse but would just rev up. it goes forward without a problem and my dad has been rolling it out of the driveway and taking it to work the last month or more. he has put 2000 or so miles on it since the reverse stopped working. and suggestions on what it could be?

im not sure what the problem is but i thought id tell you 2 things
1. a guy at work had the same problem you did and not too long after he had to get a rebuilt tranny due to the fact that the whole thing went bad.
2. my brother had the same problem you did except that it would only do it when it was cold...he just added some fluid and it worked fine. mybe try that if you havent already..it cant hurt to try right

yea true but the tranny doesnt slip or anything and when i checked the fluid it was brown but it was full, is there a sensor or something that might have shut off when it overheated?

Well If It Is All Brown You Could Have Burnt The Band In The Tranny For Reverse...The Only Other Thing You Might Be Able To Try Is To Get A Tranny Flush But I Really Doubt That This Will Do Anything.

The trans has to come out to fix this, no other way probably the famous reaction sun shell failure. Make sure the stronger updated parts are used when this is done.
