97 grand am engine swap

i have a 97 grand am gt with the 2.4 twin cam and the head gasket is going out and i was wondering if the 3.1 would fit. any info would be helpful.

Sure it would fit, but several things would have to be installed/changed.
For the cost and head ache,
you would be better off replacing the head gasket or buying another car.
Though if the motors are from the same year & model(97 GA) it would be easier because they use simular sensors.
Most sensors are different between the two engines, some sensors use 1 wire on the twin cam, and the V6 would use a 2 wire for that same sensor.
IMO its a big PITA :grinyes:

if you have your heart set on a V6, then the 3400 is the only worth while swap (thats relativly easy) Otherwise i would rebuild your current motor and make it fast, the 3100 isnt that great for performance, considering it makes around the same HP and has about 20 more ft/lbs of tq.
