Finally Started Modding...

Well I have a K & N 57-3049 FIPK CAI on it's way. I did make sure that it had a PCM mounting tray with it too, so it wasn't just zip-tied or something down. I don't know why, but I felt better about the K & N than the Thrasher or any others.

Here's my real concern. The car is under warranty for another 2 1/2 yrs or up to 60000, and I don't want to completely void it. I've spoke to my dealership and they said that it will only void the warranty if the mod is at fault. They said that they'd mount the CAI and it wouldn't be a problem. Should I just stop now and wait until the warranty is up?

If not, here are a couple questions. I have a 2004 GTP Comp G with 32700 miles on it. After the CAI is on, what is the next logical mod? I've read that the U-bend delete is important, but I want to know if I should buy a Magnaflow cat with it? Or will my factory cat have the same "throughput"?

Finally, I would like to get new plug wires that are red. Probably the MSD 8.5mm's or PRJ 10.4mm's, but I don't want to replace the plugs yet. Will I have to? I really don't understand the "colder plug" stuff and I don't want to damage anything. I want the car to look as good as it drives, ya know!

Sorry for the length.

Be careful when oiling that K&N filter, and keep it cleaned regularly. Improperly maintained or excessively oiled K&N filters can do two things. First, they load up with dirt faster than a stock paper filter and actually flow less air when dirty. Secondly, the oil can get sucked out of the filter and into the MAF sensor ruining it. I would be very hesitant to put any mods on, as the dealer will say the mod caused the issue whether it did or not, especially if it's an extended warranty through an outside company. My best suggestion is to wait until your warranty is over before doing any mods.

Thanks, the wait is going to kill me though!!! But I don't want to waste an extended warranty.

The CAI will not void any warranty. The dealership wants to get some of your money so hell yeah the'll put it on for you. I say put thr CAI as soon as you get it.

Thanks! I will have it on as soon as I get it, which should be late Tuesday! I already have the appointment made for Wednesday! I can't wait, like a kid in a candy store!

I have a question that has been discussed before. Have any of you out there actually did any track testing proving that a CAI does anything for performance? They flow more air, we know that. The question is, can the engine acutally ingest enough air to overwhelm the stock airbox, making a CAI necessary. I haven't heard of any real-world examples, so I believe the CAI advantages are just theoretical, not real-world gains. The CAI's have as many disadvantages as advantages in my book, especially the fact that they let a lot more dirt into your engine. Can anyone prove me wrong with actual timeslips? I'd love to see it.

As luck would have it I have not installed my FWI yet because I want to get a few more runs in stock next weekend. Then I will add it and get back to the track. Once I get nubers with the FWI I am then going to do the u-bend delete. I wanna see the numbers as well and see if there is any improvement.....

I hope it's not a theoretcial gain! But if it is, it will be a good lesson to me! I don't have a track nearby, otherwise I would make a few stock passes.

Can anyone tell me what the idea is behind colder plugs and why the wires have to be changed because of them? Also, if I changed the wires to MSD 8.5's would I have to change the plugs to something "colder"?

Well, I put on the K & N FIPK today. Holy **** does that make the supercharger louder! What a freakin whistle! I had heard people say that the whistle would be noticable, but damn!

I did notice that the car accelerated smoother and it , in my opinion, felt as though is was faster (could be just my imagination though!). At least from a dead stop to 45 mph.

If the sound was an idication of power, I'd be flying LOL!:grinyes:

Can anyone answer my last question also? If not that's ok, I'll read more past threads, I'm sure the answer is there somewhere!

Thank You,
Brick
