More grunt?!? You call going from a 2.8 V6 to a 454 more grunt?!? I'd hate to see what you call alot of grunt.
454 is at the upper limits of driveable... total - freaking - pig on gas. And I mean that in the purest of senses. I get somewhere around 8 MPG, however I just pulled it, and am redoing some things. I'll post up when I get it back together if there's any change in the mileage.
Funner than hell to drive, but christ is it a thirsty engine!

you have a 454 in your '70? sweet.
i drove a 1st gen with a 572 once, that was too much without warmed drag radials, it spun the wheels in forth with just the tiniest feathering of the throttle.

It can get squirrelly real quick in any gear. It doesn't come out of the garage if it's raining, or has just rained. Can't wait to see what it's like with all the compression issues, vacumm leaks, exhaust leaks, intake leaks, etc fixed.

If streetability is a factor, consider and LSx swap, but that will still be a lot of work.

OK, but a 454 is a very thirsty engine. I understand you have a daily driver, but... for any type of driving off the track, a 454 is expensive to run. (Almost sorta wish I'da got with with a suped up 350 instead. At $3+ a gallon, I almost don't even want to drive it more than a couple miles at a time.)
Do what you want, but if you're gonna run this thing all over the place when it's done (to shows, out for dinner, night on the town)... IMO you should put something a little easier on the wallet. 8 mpg doesn't sound TOO bad until you half to stop 2x-3x in one night to get gas at $60-$75 a tank.
Twin turbo 572? Are you related to Babs?
