I was wondering if it was possible to take my SL and rip out the engine and tranny and throw in a vr4 engine and and tranny minus the awd ? I know i would need a new ecu and fuel pump, exhaust and all that bs. Im lookin to throw the car in the garage for a while and turn this into a nice project. Or am i better off buying a Vr4 and upgrading from there ?
Btw in my last post, i was askin how to do my wheel bearing, well i got it fixed and when i dropped my car off and left it over night for the guy to fix the next morning some douche bag ripped my Deck outta my car. Left the amps and subs and just took the deck. =/

yeah just go and buy a vr4 they are cheaper then doing what you want to do to the car you might get. and why would you want an fwd over a awd:screwy: i guess people like what they like right. there is a lot of threads always asking the same Question. and the answer they get is it would work if they have the money, time, and mech skills. but look at it this way if u get a vr4 you would save money to put in ur car or in the bank:iceslolan . well thats just my:2cents:
well good luck if you try the project car idea

Read the TT conversion section of the FAQ. YOu don't need to remove your SL engine, you can twin turbo that for cheap enough with used vr4 parts. It's only worth it to sell it and get a vr4 if you want AWD too. If you are capable of doing most of the work yourself, then TT the SL. Just remember your NA compression is 10:1 not 8:1, so you're gonna be boosting a bit lower. But there are at least 3 guys on here who I can think of, that have done the TT conversion on their NAs...and dozens of people over on 3si.

you can TT the SL. You can either throw pick parts off of a VR-4 and do a TT conversion or you can drop in a vr-4 engine. You don't necessarily need a TT ECU, it all depends on what you want your set up to be. Bear in mind though you can make more power out of the lower CR TT engine, but you can make a lot of torque out of the non-turbo engine and still make a good 300 fwhp. You can use just about any transmission you want. The auto has been holding up well, the FWD manuals can hold a basic TT conversion, but anymore power than that you will need to get an vr-4 tranny, take the VCU out, sell it to someone on 3SI, get a bad VCU, install that and weld it. (Reason for this is there is a short supply on VCUs, and you don't need a good running one anyways).
Read up on some of the FAQs. I was one of the first 10 people to ever to a tt conversion, so if you have any "specific" questions, i'll be happy to answer them.
