H-pipe or x-pipe?

Looking for advice on finishing the exhaust on a 90 mustang 5.0 automatic with flowtech long tube headers. Is one style better? How bout brands any difference or just go with the best deal?

There isen't too much of a differernce from brand to brand, although I've heard of Basanni's catted mid-pipes having the cats come loose and rattle. I'd get an O/R H.

Generally the H-pipe will give you more of a deep throaty sound, while the X-pipe tends to give more of a raspy sound. However I have heard that with straight thrue mufflers the X-pipe does not make such a raspy sound. But with chambered mufflers I cant stand the raspy racket that an X-pipe makes. X-pipes are advertised to produce more torque than an H-pipe, but I think that is due to more backpressure in the exhaust system. I prefer an H-pipe.

thanxs for the input. I am looking for a H-pipe that will work with the flowtech long tubes but bot finding much with hiflow cats.Know of any dealers I can try?

With your headers you may have to make a custom H-pipe. Summit sells H-pipes that you can adjust for a custom fit. But you will have to have an exhaust shop custom fit pipe the rest of the way.

Mac makes a shorty h-pipe wit cats some other companies do to.
Be warned not all companies h-pipes will work with other companies LT headers so be ware.
Generally I agree with what was aid about x-pipe vs h-pipe. I prefer h-pipes cause usually the center comes unwelded unlike most x-pipes therefore allowing more play and making it easier to get in.

Or if you don't want/need a cossover you get just get 2 pipes to connect the headers and catback to delete the cats, thats what I did and it was only $20.

Want to keep the cats. Strictly a streeter. Just want to lose the 4 cats and let it breath a bit more. So far THR and Summit both said the same as GTStang, the bbk and mac pipes won't be a direct fit. Flowtech has only offroad apps. So it looks like either a custom bent setup or as 351wStang recommends the universal deal from summit. Maybe a little of both?

Yes. I would say the easiest thing for you to do is buy the little adjustable H-pipe that summit offers. But a couple hi-flow cats, then take those to an exhaust shop with the mufflers of your choice and say here ya go, weld it up.
Before makeing any purchases talk to the shop you wish to have do the work, they may be able to get parts cheaper than you.

If you are getting chambered mufflers I would go with an H-pipe.
