02 AC clutch seized?

have a '02 duratec, 39k miles, and today appears to have seized the ac clutch to always engaged. if this a DIY type job?

Try unplugging the pressure switch for the A/C system and see if the clutch remains engaged. Or, if you can reach it, unplug the electrical connector from the clutch directly and see if it remains engaged. If not, the clutch is not the issue. There's also an A/C clutch relay located in the battery junction box. If that is removed the clutch should not remain engaged either.
How long did you watch the clutch for to see if it cycled? Did you have the A/C or defroster on at the time? Were the cooling fans on the radiator running at the same time?

took the car to the dealer. $1900 because the compressor did grenade. it must have been seized before engagment. thus all the racket when it first occured.
and right now my guess would be that the a/c wasn't used much, hence the problem.
