CA18DET in an S12...

Im thinking about buying a 200sx S12 since they are cheap around here (usually around 400$) and then buying a CA18DET since 1) its a cheap yet awesome motor set 2) The S12 already came with a CA18ET so im thinking the swap shouldnt be all that difficult?

Any thoughts on this swap? Anyone hear or know of anyone whos done it? I need another car to toy around with and i figure ill go back towards nissan and keep my Starion as a fun sunday car. Thoughts/ideas?

The CA18DET came stock in the S12/200sx... It was the MK2 S12 Silvia RS-X... Japanese market only.

It's an easy swap. Pretty much a direct bolt in if I remember correctly. The KA takes a little more work, but it's well worth it... I owned a KA24DE S12 and gawd dang... it was fun as hell.

Im thinking KA now though. Because im going to be picking up a TIG here shortly and hopefully with practice i can fab up my own intercooler/manifold for a KA-T setup. Now to find another job. Thanks for the input.

And ive chose to put it into an S12 because they are cheap here (like 400-500) for a running car, whereas a S13 shell is like 1500$.

tig is my favorite, and aluminum is a nice break from steel once in a while. its like anything else, practice makes perfect. (i dunno if youve tried it before or not)

ps in your sig it says the quest is done? update your thread! :evillol:

I havent tried it yet, im still trying to get good at stick. i know it will be alot of time and work to get the tig down, but ive got friends at local turbo shops who make intercoolers who said they will show me the basics.

And i will update the thread, possibly with a vid and clip of the 2step (f'ing loud).

cool sounds good. i think when you move onto tig, you might find it a bit easier than stick. its def more relaxed, you can wear light clothing, and you can take your time.. its alot like gas welding in some ways. if i have a choice i always choose tig over anything else.. depending what it is obv

I'm taking a welding class at my school, only I'm stuck with the crappy oxy-feul welder for now.

So i have a 86 200sx with a s12 chassis and im looking to upgrade to a CA18DET from the stock CA18ET need to know if it bolts in to my s12 chassis with out any mods

Iwould say find an ECU from a CA18DET and just get the turbo and manifold and intercooler and such.

Easier and cheaper to do than the whole engine swap.

i did some research, the intercooler cost the same as the new motor so ild prefer some thing new for my car but thanks :)

the entire engine control system must be swapped over, and the stock tach will not work.
