i mean not that stuff u get off ebay... not like a test pipe type deal cuz i had a one on my gf's car and it made the whole exhaust system sound like shit... went from deep tone with the stock cat... then after i put the ebay cat/ test pipe look alike and now it sounds loud and raspy...

you can replace the cat with a resonator if you really want to, but OEM cats are high flow enough for all but a highly boosted car.

Get a Resonated test pipe.

I shit through the cracks in the enviroments teeth for my morning glory.

why don't you just get a standard cat. you can usually get a fairly inexpensive cat online. i uusally use http://www.autohausaz.com/nissan-auto-parts/index.html. they always seem to have some good pricing on stuff like cats.

Came gutted with the car, previous owner (40ish year old lady) said it was clogged and didn't want to spend on a replacement cat. Exhaust sounds good and doesnt crack/fart through out rpms :smooch:

I'm looking at some high flow cats on ebay; my friends got some there and they recommend it. The prices are pretty decent.

ok well thats different. putting a high flow cat or a resonator on should get you a few hp over a gutted cat.

The so called high flow cats they sell on ebay are nothing more than a straight pipe which is not smog legal. I had previously bought one for my honda thinking it was a real cat but sure enough it was nothing more than straight pipe. Causes the CEL to come on on all OBDII systems and the car will fail a smog test. Look for a reputable brand name cat. as long as its new it wont be very restrictive and will help to keep emissions low.

why not put your cat in when you go through emissions and put the test pipe back in when you pass? Thats what i do, its only 4 bolts..

Import Tuner's test using a ceramic obd II cat, metallic obd II cat, and then test pipe. And yeah I know its a Honda but its still a test on backpressure and HP gains.

"After removing the OEM cat, we welded and bolted up an OBD II Magnaflow ceramic-core catalytic converter in place of the stock one. With the Magnaflow cat installed, the Honda turned the rollers to the tune of 150hp and 107 lb-ft to the wheels. The ceramic-core cat netted us an additional 3hp and 2 lb-ft to the front wheels. Obviously, this cat really can flow more than stock.
Next up was the metallic core Magnaflow OBD II cat. Because metallic cats can take more abuse and richer AFRs (and generally flow more), these are often the choice of the performance-minded tuner. After much cursing and a bit of charred flesh, we put the fancy metallic-core cat onto the Civic. Apparently, the metallic core unit does indeed flow slightly better than the ceramic unit. But when we say slight, we mean slight. The metallic core cat netted us a 1hp gain (to 151hp) and no increase in torque over the ceramic core. So, unless you are running a rich AFR (like in a boosted application) the extra cost of the metallic core might not be worth it. However, if you are running a rich mixture, the metallic cat is still your best bet.
With the testing of all three cats out of the way, it was time to unplug the exhaust and let her rip without that pesky brick in the exhaust. No matter how you cut it, a cat is a restriction and costs power, right? With the moment of truth at hand, we bolted in our test pipe - eliminating the cat entirely. On our final pull we stood eagerly by the dyno's monitor, waiting to see the results. Wait ... here it comes ... 152hp and 108 lb-ft - a gain of one measly horsepower and one lb-ft of torque at the cost of breaking the law."

So if you ask me if 1 HP and 1 LB-FT is worth being illegal, no, not really. Like they say in the article, lose 10 pounds and you'll notice more of an improvement.

depends on the car though. personally i wouldnt trust import tuner as far as i can wipe my ass with it where tuning is concerned. that said, it just reinforces the truth that today's stock cats flow well enough for all but a turbocharged car running high boost. this is true but take everything in that mag with a grain of salt. would you trust a person/magazine whos more concerned with tits than cars to accurately tell you what works? not me.

Breaking the law? Only in California will they tow your car for that, everywhere else they will just tell you to go for an inspection, like someone said, put the cat on, go for inspection then take the cat off. Fuck the environment, it's not a couple of hundred tuned cars that will ruin the planet. You know that cows polute more then all the cars on the planet put together? And what about the fucking factories? I take no responsibility in saving this planet.

A dyno could care less about tits.

Hahahahahaha, fucking hilarious. Definetely sig worthy.
