Greetings,

Back in late September and early October of 2006 I spend some time on these forums asking how I can inexpensively increase performance on my 2000GT. I even went as far to ask if it is worth modifying the entire system to prepare for a supercharger and the overhwhelming response was.. sell the car and buy a GTP..

Well, fate intervened shortly after that. An SUV pulled in front of me and totaled my car, yea I was ok :). It was a blessing in disguise and the insurance company gave me $3400 more than what I payed for it. That enabled me to pick up a nice GTP. Anyways, enough of the story.

Before I asked how can I get away with cheap mods. It is different now and I can afford to spend a bit and bring this baby to the next level. The overall consensus on these forums was to use 3800performance.com as a source for parts. I am overly impressed with the site, and my question lies therein...

I am looking at the 3800SC Stage 3 Performance Package. Is it worth it? and, everyones' favorite question, what HP and Torque can I expect to be at? I myself and my friends believe I am sitting at 245-250 with just the offbrand CAI I have on it right now..

I will link to the package to save time :)

Thank you for your time,

Personally I would say you could save money by doing some other mods or doing the mods individually. First of all the DHP reprogram for your PCM is $99 which is a good upgrade. I would open up the exhaust by doing a U-bend delete and staying with the stock exhaust. It flows well and will save you some money. If you decide to go with headers, great bang for the buck, you can purchase a new high flow cat for about $75 from Magna Flow for the car. Also the pulley can be purchased for around a $100 but you will need to rent a puller. It appears that the biggest cost to this package is the cat back exhaust. The 3.4 is a good choice for increased performance without needing other mods. If you go to Thrasher you can purchase the pulley system individually. A good set of 1.9 rockers would also increase your performace and go well with the pulley and exhaust mods along with the reprogrammed PCM. I guess maybe I prefer to select my own mods rather than going with a package. And by the way don't forget the cold air intake to get more air into the system.

I hope this helps. I am certain other members will weigh in on this one.

I agree with GTPdad. I would buy the performance parts seperatly...If you do a search on google for CUSTOM FWI GTP you will find a really good write -up on doing a fender well intake. It didnt cost me anything but the filter since I am in construction I got most everything I need from the onsite plumber....The rest at H.D. the filter I got online K&N.

Is the off-brand CAI an open cone design because if it is it might be hurting you...My guess is your having a lot more fun with the GTP than the GT. Big dif. isnt it?

Anyways congrats on the car an glad to see you made it through the accident ok...Good luck modding and keep us posted...

Also if you do a search for Pontiac GTP forums you shopuld stumble upon a couple good sights that offer alot of used performance parts for sale.....Its worth looking into....

If your going to add the exhaust for performance, I will go with something other than the dynomax. I'm sure its a great stock replacement exhaust, but its aluminized not stainless and it measures the stock 2.25 diameter. However if your really want the dynomax, check out summit Racing. Its 369.99 vs 429.99.

It truly is a big difference. The entire time I had my GT I had secretly lusted for a GTP, I almost missed the chance too.. A very good friend was ragging on me for procrastinating.. I eventually seized the opportunity.. he ended up driving me across a few states to pick it up. Good times :grinyes:

Thank you for the advice.. Upon more examination of these forums, I have noticed alot of talk about KR, even more so when smaller pulleys are brought up.

I do not want to half-ass it, and that is not a passive response to anyone...

I do want the 3.4in pulley. Besides opening the intake and exhaust plus adding a performance computer. What else can I do to lower or eliminate KR? I just got my ass beat by the cost of replacing the engine(the previous one completely froze up) and I cannot afford any major repairs. Do I have to worry about KR when utilizing a 3.4in pulley?

BTW, jeepgclwj

Here is a pic of that CAI that I spoke of

I will say this and I know this is true. That CAI is hurting you more than helping. Your basically sucking in hot air. I would bet the factory set-up would be better for you in that case. When you decide to go with another I would def. check into FWI. It would keep the air filter as far away from the engine as possible while still bringing in cool fresh air from right behind the headlight.

You will want cooler plugs and thermostat and u-bend delete and a downpipe or headers. If you plan on going further with your mods in the future you might as well start off with the headers. PCM and I'm not sure but I think the factory exhaust is good for basic modding. If you are just looking for sound go for it... I like the sleeper effect. They cant hear you coming....

You want an exhaust that's not too cheap but not too expensive, here ya go. It says stainless tips, so I don't know what the rest is made out of, but it's still a 3" system!

Honestly though, 3" may be overkill depending on the rest of your mods.

Alright, based on what everyone said this is what I will do.

U-bend delete
Magnaflow cat
Thrasher CAI
Thrasher 3.4in pulley
180 TStat
Colder plugs(recommendations please?)
DHP 1.0 PCM

Is there anything else I need or should consider?

Considering the parts listed, and my assumed current HP of 245. What HP and torque can I expect to be running at or around?

Thanks everyone.:)
