I have positraction in my 01 Sierra 1500 with 95k miles on it and I get a noise or ting sound when accellerating from a stop or turning at low speeds. I read here at AF that some trucks needed to lubricate (grease) the slip yolk at the rear of the transmission, but is that also true for the automatics 4L60 and 4L80? It's the typical u-joint ting that sound like tapping the drive shaft with wrench.

The sound from the slip yoke problem is completely different. More like someone hit your back bumper with a rubber mallet. I think you got it right the first time, check the u-joints.
