350 chev timing problem

hi i have a problem with my engine starts ok but has no power i try to adjust timing but where ever put the dist does not make a diffrence even if i advanceit or retard it it is at tdc and rotor button is pointing at #1 cyl any help would be great thanks in advance ps. it has a double roller timing chain

You mention the timing chain. Did you recently replace that? If so, did you "degree" the cam? Cam timing and ignition timing, are for the most part, independent of each other. A mis-timed cam can produce the symptoms you describe.

hi no i did not degree the cam i just pulled off the timing cover and rolled the engine over to tdc the two dots line up on the cam crank i rolled it over again 360 degrees and thy line up again the chain looks old the engine was bored 30 over this problem just happened one morning when i started the car thanks your friend ken is it possible the chain jumped

If the dots line up, I doubt it. How much slack was in the chain? If more than 1/2", it COULD be shot...

measured timing chain its more than 1/2 inch im going to change the chain is it ok to just replace the chain some say its ok and some say replace the sprockets also the sprockets look ok thanks

I would install either a Speed Pro 224-3100 or Comp 3100 timing "set". The modern roller chains are far superior to the older ones, and WAY past the old "silent" chain. Get the Comp catelog, and follow the instructions on "degreeing the cam". They may have a printable version online.
