Does anyone have any insight into putting a 4.3 V-6 from a 1993 Jimmy into a 1981 Chevette?
Any tips and words of wisdom (besides those that say not to do it)?
Thanks to all who contribute.

Lots of strange things have been swapped into a Chevette.
Be prepared to fabricate your own engine and trans mounts, exhaust, plumbing, driveshaft, electrical etc. It's good if you are handy with a welder.
IMO the biggest obstacle would be to transfer the EFI wiring harness, sensors and ECM over to teh Chevette. It's possible, but would take many hours.
You would also need a 2wd transmission, if your Jimmy is a 4x4. Go for an auto trans, if possilbe. Fabricating or adapting a clutch set up for the Chevette would only add complexity to an already complicated project.

Yes, I definately want to go with an automatic. The Jimmy is a 4x4 with automatic trans. I also have access to a 700r4 trans from a Firebird. I was hoping to use the trans from the Jimmy to make things easier electronically. Is it possible to modify a 4x4 trans to used with a 2WD?

It's a lot easrier to get a 2wd transmission. However, the 4x4 trans and transfer case are worth something when removed. You could probably sell them for some $$$ after removal, if they are still good.
