Sound when accelerating

When I am accelerating I hear a whining noise that seems to be coming from my tailpipe, although I am not positive since I am inside the car. The sound only occurs at speeds above 25 mph. If I am going faster than 25 mph and if i even tap the gas pedal, it makes the whining noise. I cant describe the noise very well other than that it is high pitched and sounds like it is whining. I went 70 mph and it got extremely loud. Does anyone know what the noise is or how to fix?

Does the engine still run good?
Could you be hearing a fuel pump whine?
Block it up on stands and craw under there and look around for a pinched or jammed exhaust or tail pipe and for holes in the exhaust and check the exhaust system hangers.
If you can not find the problem run it by a repair shop or muffler shop and have the check it.

Well the engine is running fine so far. I dont even know what the fuel pump sounds like when it makes noise so that could be a possibility. If i even touch the accelerator at speeds above 15 mph, the sound occurs then goes away if i take my foot off of the accelerator. The sound is like a howl that almost sounds like an airplane powering up or taking off. Also when i take my foot off the accelerator, there is a gringing sound right before the noise goes away. I will try to find time to take it to the shop. Thanks for your help

I seriously doubt it's the fuel pump. I would suspect a component in the drive train or rear wheel bearing. Check the U-joints and the front bearing in the rear end. If those check out. put the rear, (both rear wheels) up on large stable jack stands, start it up, put it in gear and see if you can tell where the noise is coming from. You need two people for this and use caution; if it falls off the jack stands it will take off.

I just took my blazer to the shop and I found out that the problem was my rear end. It has always been really rusty from being up north for so long, so I guess nows the time for it to go. Im getting a used rear end put in and with labor it will be $750. I love my blazer but its such a pain the butt to me. In two years, two sets of tires-$900, intake gasket-$500, rebuilt tranny-$1400, exhaust-$250, and now the rear end, plus i need a new cat converter, ive put in alternator, two batteries, water pump, and so many other things.
And by the way, i need a new catalytic converter so should I go to meineke and buy their cat and have them install it or buy one off eBay and take it to them to install? I found a magnaflow cat on eBay for $57 with free shipping.

If you need to pass state emissions, I wouldn't buy the one on eBay, as it may not get you through an emissions test.

Well I called Meineke and they qutoed me $170 and I have a $20 off coupon. I might just go with them then because I think they also give a warranty.

You might want to check with the shop where your truck is now. See what they want for a lifetime warranty converter installed. Usually local repair shops are cheaper than Nationwide muffler shops.

Well my local shop is gonna send me to meineke to get it done since they are swamped and it would be about the same price.
