I owned an '87 Riv myself, the antenna connection started to go bad. I believe the solder joint broke loose. I was able to move the antenna plug a little and make it get reception again. Be careful when you do this, there is a transformer in the center console that has fairly high voltage, it was WELL marked in my car. I don't remember how close to the antenna connection it was anymore. If you have time, you could solder on a new end, however you will need to extend the current cable, was very limited on lenth. I was always going to do that to my car, just never got around to it. If you need further assistance let me know..
