94 PA Tranny Replacement

Hello all great site you have here. I have a 94 Park Ave with the supercharged engine and I have to replace my tranny. Before I get into things let me say that I do not know much about engines and transmissions but can help someone who does. In this case my father in law.

First of all the issue I'm having is that when i got the car at around 188,000 miles the transmission was lipping in first gear and reverse. It wasn't leaking fluid or anything and then one day about 3000 miles later I was driving it and heard what sounded like my transmission was grinding itself to pieces and I couldn't go faster the about 10 miles an hour. Luckily I was only a half mile from home and was able to get it back to my garage, where it sits now and will not move at all or shift into gear.

In my area of Oklahoma the going rate to rebuild my trans is about $1700 to $2000. So my father in law have decided to buy a used one from a salvage and replace it ourselves. Now my question to all of you guru's out there is what kind of tranny and what years am I looking for? And is there and good instructions and or guides on the net to help me get the job done. Also any advice would be helpfully.

Once I get that fixed then Ill see if you all can help me with my other minor issues.

Thanks to all that reply.
