UPDATE:

Thanks again Gents!

I have moved into the cockpit.

Fist of all I used the kit fire extinguisher and not the turned metal one in the scaleproduction set :screwy:

Painted and cleared, straps from BMF, added a nut from a slice of hex rod and made some kind of plumbing with solder. It's pure artistic license on my part ;)

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/gasnica_01.jpg

Next was the centre console. Painted with a mix of Vallejo Black and dark grey (as is all the interior) and cleared with Vallejo Satin. Drilled out some holes to add some extra switches and painted the knobs

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/konsola_01.jpg

Added switches with some pieces of wire and added a p/e main engine cut of switch

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/konsola_02.jpg

This is how the kit exhause pipes looked - pure crap!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/rura_01.jpg

I actually managed to putty and sand them into good shape and painted them up but they didn't fit well.

My new ref photos shows that the CdF car in fact has a huge single tail pipe so I scratched a new set up with alu tube, some of my beloved wire boots and painted them matte white for a more competitive look (IMO anyway ;)

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/rura_02.jpg

More to come when I get rid of an awful cold - sneeze!!

Update.

Exhaust is finished and fitted in place. I imagine I will daub some weathering over it.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/rury_02.jpg

References showed that the exhaust train is suspended on a spring sling so I added a facsimile even though it won't be visible (as usual :) )

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/rury_03.jpg

This is a reference of the interior of an M1. Apart from the main cut off switch, there is also a rather visible pull-toggle-thingamy-whatsit (please excuse the technical jargon).

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/console-ref_01.jpg

I decided I had better add this too as it would make a nice "eye hanger" in the cockpit. Made of styrene rod, card, wire and a sharpie pen.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/WIPs/BMW%20M1/konosla_02.jpg

Put together my first p/e six point harness and I'll be glad if I never have to do another one on my life!!! What a pain in the a$$!!! Thank goodness I am not doing a cabrio and it won't be easy to see what a dogs dick I made of it :D

Spectacular stuff!

My friend, your skills are continually improving by leaps and bounds. I can never guess your next surprise, but you never cease to amaze.

I might guess that the red pull knob is the fire supression system? Either way (to pick a nit), it seems like it might be mounted a bit far back. The pic seems to have it mounted even with the shift lever.

klutz_100

...it seems like it might be mounted a bit far back.
Not "might be" - is be :D
I noticed that I had placed it incorrectly afterwards but I thought "oh, sod it!". I didn't want to make a mess of the console by remounting it

I am seriously giving thought to doing the harness again though.... :runaround:
The glue stained the ribbon in places although I suppose I could convince myself that M. Pironi spilled his coke on a particularly sharp right-hander.....

Robert, not showing off ;)

I had no idea myself until a couple of weeks ago. I had been researching this car for a long time but, as you know yourself, reference materials of the CdF version are rarer than water in a desert!!

Just a couple of weeks ago I was surfing the web looking for some more paint info and I came across Jan's personal site dedicated to Didier Pironi. I saw he had some pictures that I hadn't seen before so I emailed him and he kindly sent me the jpgs.

These 2 indicated that the CdF exhaust was:
a) a huuuge single tail pipe; and
b) white :)

(Note that I didn't go so far as to try and cut out the nice shape at the end of the pipe ;) (slacker I am!) )

wow... the paint and decals look INCREDIBLE, and i feel your pain with the six-point harnesses. i made one for a porsche 904 that i can't seem to finish and hated every minute of it!

i haven't had even a minute to do any modeling, let alone even log on to this place, for the past two weeks, and i apologize. i haven't been ignoring you! :)

i'm going to go work on the 365 now... not even gonna check other threads until i get at least enough work done to post an update. it's self-punishment.

Amazingly, I have just discovered this thread today. I regret I couldnt join in all the fun in these 2 excellent wip's but starting out at page one made this seem like I was sitting down with a good book. That crazy masking and decalling job left me speechless. I can't believe what a great idea using valve stems for shocks is, typical of Stevie to come up with something like that. That engine with the breathers and miles of tubing and CeeElle's interior are masterfully done. I honestly don't know which I enjoyed more, the skills involved here or Klutz's commentary. Great work guys!

Hey, my respects to you for the amazing job you're doing with this model. About the number lights, you can look fot the ones that Sakatsu does. I use them all the time. They are made out of white metal.

Good luck!

Where did you go for your holiday? Also, down the bottom at posting rules, it says I cant post attachments, does this mean I cant do a WIP? What is the easiest way to attach photos (I read the tips and tutorials but they didn't seem to work for me). This site is a little confusing after that other one.

Nah - it's dead easy really :) you need to use your Fotki (or Photobucket) account as the image host. Practice in a post in this thread, if you like,.

In your message you need to paste the ..... format of your images they they provided on Fotki. Mail me (or send me a PM message) if you need more help. You will quickly get the hang of it, I promise!

BTW I went to Sardinia heres a photo ;)

Wow. Just... wow. Ski, ou did that kit far more justice than I would have.

Apologies for having vanished for the past two months. I won't bore everyone with the details, but I've got another week or so of insanity, but then I'll return to modeling after having been forced to put the kits aside for the better part of three months. I want to finish the Porsche 904 I started in March and get back to the 365 so I can wrap up my end of this team build.

:)
