i got a 90 cavy with the tbi 2.2 i was wondering if the fi from a newer 2.2 would bolt up. i want to go the performance route with this car, but i'm on a bit of a budget. I'm gonna be starting with the junkyard upgrades (tb, intake, cam, head, etc. what ever makes power from stock bolt ons) and go from there. if anybody knows whats backwards compatible with the OLD 2.2 please let me know.
for now i'm just gonna replace my exhaust, redo my interior and audio, maybe see if i can find some suspension bits.
which reminds me, are there any suspension pieces that i can use from other models that will lower it or better the handling (like springs from cutlass, swaybar from monte carlo that kind of thing).
for some reason i like to see what i can do with factory parts first, and i have found that on some occasion (chrysler cars) you can make a whoopass car out of factory parts.
AFTERMARKET STILL ROCKS THE HOUSE THOUGH!!!!!

Theres a good chance that the fuel injectors from 89-94 are the same. You could call an autopart store and see if the part numbers may be the same.

You're not going to generate much power from that motor, period. I'd reccomend you go to a junkyard and find a lovely 90-94 Z24 or RS and get the 3.1 installed. Easy to get in, and will torque you right out of your seat.
Or maybe a 3100/3400 if you're feeling ballsy.

I'm sorry, its not a matter of how much power i'm getting from my 2.2,what matters is i'm getting alot of power from it. I'm not getting a 3.1 because it burns more gas. You must be thinking that i want a bigger engine. I am only trying to figure out exactly why I have as much power as I have. Besides i've heard alot of bad things about the 3.1. Why don't you clean your throttle body and see what happens? I didn't only clean it,i lubricated the flapper with wd-40

the only route to go with the 2.2 is to supercharge or put on a turbo.
installing newer injecters will not do nothing. think of an engine as an air pump. the more air you can get in and out the more power you build. the 2.2 are just not very performance savvy. i have one in my sunfire so i know first hand. good luck

ok im sick of ppl saying o dont bother with a 2.2l its not worth it bull crap!!!!! I have a 2000 cavy with a 2200 and its just fine to toy with and turbo.Ive got forged pistons + rods mind u but it can still be turboed .And a steel header ans a new exhaust but dont shut out the 2.2 just because its a little smaller.

Its not about size, as I'd be the first to say something like "Go ahead and boost the ever loving hell out of that ecotec," which is itself a 2.2. For the OHV, though, the problem is...well...the OHV part. The high-revs typical for turbo applications just aren't as useful on the 2.2. Don't get me wrong, a 2.2 can be incredibly fast. Its just going to cost an arm and a leg, with cost being higher than the other 2 common motors for smaller gains.
Though there is something to be said for some of those 2.2's out there, for example:

At just under 250HP, 256 TQ, it'll scoot. And the fact its coming from a 2.2 is actually pretty damn impressive.
