AWD info?

Im 15 almost 16 and am looking for a car (Talon haha) and i was wondering about some info on these cars:

With the AWD cars, is there a button you press to get it into AWD or does it just kick in kind of like a posy?
Are these reliable cars (esi,tsi,etc)?
Price range?
Problems coming out of factory such as leaks etc?
Stock times?
Anything else?

Thanks in advance,
Pizzzle

unless youre not paying for insurance i wouldn't even think about getting a tsi awd, because thats a sports car, and about a $300 a month insurance payment, unless you have some way around it, just get the stock model and don't mod it

OF course these cars are reliable depending on how hard you want to beat on them.
The trannys are a diffrent case thought.

I am only 14 {and a girl} , to solve the insurnce problems buy a non turbo car switch engines with a turbo or convert. YOu won't pay that extra bit of money.....
Stock turbo awd cars runs a high 14 usally depending on the driver/car
Pricing depends on who you buy it off Look for people who don't know what they are doing {usally teenage guys who drive hondas just my experience} It is not ripping them off you are just getting the better half of the deal...............

True about the trannys, and theres a batch of DSM's that might have a problem with crankwalk that would need to be fixed as soon as possible. Also, most people that buy an NA Talon and convert it to a turbo will tell you just to pay that little extra and buy the TSi in the first place. It's just too much trouble to convert it, and you will probably want to insure your brand new turbo if you put one in, otherwise it would be at least $3000 down the drain if you were in an accident (hopefully not, but you never know).
I like your view on guys who drive Hondas, lol.

I just want to say something about one honda owner. My step brother. He talks SO MUCH SHIT. pisses me off. I get my talon tsi awd for $4000 with taxes and doc. (insurance is about $450 every 6)(not bad huh) My brother was more excited than i was, just cuz the 4g63 engine in da car. He told me to get it. All i knew was that the turbo didn't work. I decided i would eventually get a loan, and buy a new turbo and some other mods. BAD NEWS BOUT THAT. My bro is bout to put a b16b in his 4th gen civic. He'll kick some ass. Like I said though. SOME. 60ft from the dealership lot, my headgasket blew. Some other crap was messed up on it also. my dad's friend at the mechanic shop bought a motor for $3900. It was a rebuilt block and head and came with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. Guess what. My crank walk sensor messed up bout a week or week 1/2 after i got my car back to drive for the first time. bout $70 later, we fixed that problem. on the side, i got a used turbo for $500. Works fine. when i got the car, it had a junk yard motor in there (had the numbers on it). Later on, me and my dad took the car to my godfather's garage, and we fixed the driveshaft. We fixed that whole assembly. I got to drive the car again for bout a week or two. we also paid $170 for the idle air control valve. We still needed the code taken out of the ecu. (well we needed to reset the ecu) You can also hear this squeeky noise. At first I didn't know what it was. I assumed it was some belt rubbing something. My dad assumed something else. Eventually we find out. I didn't really drive hard on the car for the fact that i needed to break the engine in. I have bout 1500 miles on it. Then one day at bout midnight after going to wendys to get food, me and my friends (1 was driving a 1st gen gs turbo with 1 other friend with him, and me in a 2nd gen tsi awd with 1 friend with me). As we left the parking lot to exit on Rt 25, he accelerated fast. I followed. Shifted bout 5500 rpms from 1st gear. then for the first time ever 6000 rpms from 2nd gear. Then continued to accelerate. I reached 120 mph EASILY. (VERY FUN) and i also passed my friend even though he had a head start. After letting go of the gas, the speedometer started acting crazy. (it was jumping from 120 to 80 to 120 to 50, ect.) Usually it did it when i accelerated, but stopped at the speed i was actually doing when i let go the gas. We went back to his house to watch INITIAL D. At bout 2 in da mornin, i went to take my friend home. I took this small S curve, and in the entrance to it, i hit the brake a little harder than i should ("advanced" style of drifting, mentioned in initial d) and when i went to go on the exit of the S curve, I didn't hit the brake as hard. This time I started to drift good. I decided not to currect my understeer and skidded to a stop. I got bout an inch from the curb (not lying, i found out by the skid marks). I went to turn onto a road and heard a snap from my engine bay. Next thing you know, my engine turns off, and i had to coast to a stop on the side of the street on my next turn. my friend called my other friend with the gs turbo and he came. As he was coming he took the S curve and seen those skid marks. He backed up to check them out, and he pointed them to me. Before he came i got out of my car and checked the engine bay. It was dark outside and couldn't see anything that much. I looked under the car and noticed something. My oil was pooring out. I thought i broke the oil pan and wished i didn't. my friend came and picked us up. we moved my car out of the way for other cars that went by eventually. We ended up parking it in front of my friends girlfriends house. I called my dad the next night and told him the problem. He said that the following morning we would go back to my car and check it out. It turns out that the oil filter losened up (from earlier when my tires actually gripped for once and I ended up turning to early and hit a curb)(the same wheel assembly i just fixed). We also noticed what that squeeky sound was. It turned out to be the ac belt. It snapped and broke the timing belt cover. It also got caught up with the timing belt (as far as i can remember, don't hold me to that one). The timing belt didn't break, but the car wouldn't turn on. We got a flat bed and towed it to my house. $58 again (had to use a flat bed before cuz the crank walk sensor) (and rented a dolly for $40 to tow it from chicago to elgin to my house). Eventually the mechanic got a tow truck here a few weeks later to pick up my car and tow it to the shop. They finally ripped apart the block and seen that the valves broke. I'm guess that when the ac belt broke, it hit the timing belt hard enough to jump a tooth and mess up the engine. Now the investigators have to come and check it out (which i don't know why they aren't hear yet) and see if the warranty will cover the damage. I didn't do anything wrong. Drifting had nothing to do with it, on account i didn't over rev. I never went passed 6000 rpms. 1 time i went to 6000 and that's when i mentioned that my speedometer fucked up. I have had so many problems with that car so much. I had this one guy from NYCCDSM.COM to check the history of my car, (he had carfaqs till the 18th of this month and was helping people out). Nothing bad at all was mentioned about my car. NOTHING. it previously had 1 owner. I was the second owner, and yet the car can be considered totaled just after i put that other engine in. One thing i don't get is, my engine came from japan, (i checked the shipping crate and everything) yet it's still a 7 bolt motor. WHY. Shouldn't it be a 6 bolt instead? All I have to say is one thing. If you want a dsm, you better have money to fix the problems you'll be having all the time. I was eventually thinking of getting an evo 8 but i don't want to spend that much money right now, cuz i have to pay $45,000 for college. (devry university-computer programming)(i'm starting this july for the next 3 years)(wish me luck)

hey importcrew can u clarify what a crank walk sensor is b/c they don't exist. Also why u couldn't tow ur car because of this crank walk sensor. It is impossible to get rid of crankwalk in a 2g 7 bolt engine.

I dont even know where to start. This is what happens when people buy these cars and dont understand them. A head gasket doesnt "blow" in 60 feet. You had to be doing something. I only lose one at at least 25 psi on a good drag run at the track. they dont just pop cruisng around. Then any mechanci you take it to is going to screw you, and then screw up on the tbelt job. Who ever did that tbelt job is the person to blame here. ONLY use the dealer for that. They usually screw it up too and dont know how to properly do it, but at least they will do it again for you for free. I could go on for hours here. Suffuce it to say I am sorry to hear about your misfortunes, and sorry to see that this post will breed a whole new batch of people that want to tell me the DSMs are unreliable... Good luck with the warrantee company.
