Emission Failed

I just had my emission checked and failed. I have a 2000 Passport and am getting really sick of mechanics doing un-necessary repairs. I want to get the upper hand this time, hehe. The fault codes that showed up this time on the test were P1404 and P0463. I have an check engine light that is on more than it is off and a fuel light that follows suit. My gas gauge also is on a hype and indecisive and can't figure out whether I have a full tank or empty tank. Do I need to clean the ERG valve or replace it? Do I also need to replace the fuel sending unit? Thanks for listening to me rattle on.

sounds like you need the fuel sending unit replaced. Also, give the EGR and the tubes a good cleaning. See how that works. If it doesn't do it, replace the EGR. It is real simple to do. I had to replace my EGR last year at this time. I went to a junkyard and grabbed one for around $20.
