Torque converter???

I have a 1999 Chevy Venture that started jerking hard and the engine light came on. Had it checked was told it was the torque converter. When it started jerking I would just shut it off a minute and it would run fine. Now I am hearing a high pitched airy noise when i accelerate and it is not shifting smooth. I am a single mom in a new town and dont want to be taken advantage of so if anyone can give me any suggestions as to possible causes and estimates I would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome to AF. We do not know the root problem here, what was the code, has a trans tech checked the truck with a full trans scan to check for tcc slippage, is the fluid burnt?

Your best bet is to take it to a transmission shop (or even several) and have them take a look at it. Most will give you a no cost basic diagnostic. The DTC that caused the check engine light to come on hopefully will give you a much better answer.
