why?

here's a question: why is it that all the off-brand cheap stuff is higher wattage then name brand stuff? for example, i was looking at Lanzar (made by Pyle USA) amps last night. they make a 2 channel amp with 4000 watts peak and 1000 watts RMS @ 4 ohm. lotta power there. then i was looking up Alpine and Rockford amps. quite the opposite. the highest wattage 2 channel by Alpine was only 150 watts per channel RMS at 4 ohm! i cant remember what the highest Rockford amp i found in 2 channel was, but it was low as well.

so why is it that name-brand car audio stuff is so much lower power then off-brand stuff like Lanzar and Pyramid. this seems to be true with amps, subs, and speakers, but especially amps.

what gives???

it's because company's lik alpine and rockford one put out a cleaner signal and too actully give out there rated power. one way you can tell if it is a b/s number is to check the fuse size cause 30 amp fuse can't support 1000 rms

Now I'm not sure, but I have heard that a lot of the quality stuff is under rated and a lot of the crap stuff is over rated, but I'm not sure.

this is how i see it.:

crap stuff over rates there stuff and/or they go by there max watts not rms.
mainstream stuff ( like kicker mtx alpine rockford. usally put out around there rated rms.

Then there is the more upscale stuff like us amps etc where they will put out there rated power and then some like the us amps md2d is rated at 1500 rms at 1 ohm but one has been benched tested to be putting out 1950 at 1 ohm

Exactly, your not going to get a $200 amp if it only produces 500rms, but if you can get a 1000 watt amp for $100 then why not.

Heres the reaon why there cheap

compare that to this

or this

And heres some pics of a real 4k watt rms amp

All in all there after your money, consider what alot of them rate there stuff at to be 3-4 times the actual rating, if not more.

CAR stereo equipment is not regulated in any mandatory way ..... so the manufacturers can legally write whatever power ratings they want on their amps or speakers. So the word for the day is caveat emptor - let the buyer beware.
