93 olds regency trouble

While driving down interstate on cruise at about 78 mph, the car suddenly started to lose power, as if it were running out of gas. Drove to nearest mechanic, who said I needed an alternator. He did not have any, so he charged battery, and sent me down the road to a place that did. They told me the alternator tested fine, but battery failed all tests, so I got a new battery. Car drove fine for another 300 miles, and then started chugging and sputtering again. If I shut car off, and let sit for a few minutes, it would drive fine. The car was not over heating, and i replaced the fuel filter the week before. I want my hubby to drop the gas tank and clean it, as the car has sat for a few months, before we dropped in a different engine. but he doesnt think that could be the problem.
I also am having a problem finding a headlight for the car, no sites here on the internet list them for a 93 olds regency 98, Do I have to look for another year?

Welcome to AF. Replacement headlites gan be gotten aftermarket from any body shop supplier or even possibly NAPA. The issue with the dieing could be a fuel pump going bad or a problem with the ign system, someone has to check for spark/fuel pressure and injector pulse when this happens.

I am going to receive a 92 Olds Regency from the church I haven't seen it yet but I am happy about it. It has 140,000 miles on it and it was owned by one person a elderly lady. She got another car and blessed me so I my question what do you know about this make and model? and is this the correct name of the make or is it a 98 Olds Regency.

I am a single gal and know very little about cars can you advise me? :wink:

Welcome to AF. It is a 98 Regency. Solid cars in the day. Trans were a little weak, the usual maf sensor issues and crank sensor stuff, though. In the future please start a new thread, this is unrelated to the original issue.
