Fujimi Enthusiast Porsche kit help

Hey guys,
I'm gearing up for a Porsche project using these kits, and I'm in need of some help. I'm going to build a semi replica/car that I would drive similar to this early 70's 911

I'm thinking of staring out with the fujimi 73 911 rs kit, and possibly buying the 911r model for the tails, the wingless motor lid, and the center hood gas filler, and maybe the 911 rs 3.0 for the 3.0 liter motor that the car shown above has(i've got a magazine article on it too). Now I was wondering if anyone has any info on whether the 911 rs kit actually has the parts i'm looking for from the 911r kit on its trees(I know some of these kits include parts leftover from other building versions) Or if anyone has any scans of the 911rs and the 911r's instruction sheets. I know a few have these kits up here(or I hope they do) and I appreciate any help. Also if anyone has these kits for trade or sale let me know....(i'm really not wanting to wait for hlj to get them in stock once I decide which one(s) to buy)

The 911R kit would just about do it for you. The engines in the kit are identical- the only difference is that the RS engine is fuel enjected, and the R has carburators. But that's only what's sitting on top of the engines- the blocks themselves are identical (I think that in reality Porsche just bored out the block to bring it to 3l).
The RS does not have the R style rear lights. But the R does not have the chromed front turn signals- there's only an open duct for coolong the front brakes there. And of course you'll need to go to an RS if you want the chin license plate mount.
Neither kit has those cool 15" Minilites, though. :disappoin

thanks for the help, the minilites are the hard part..I'm thinking a set of panasports or wats would like just as good up there. Looks like i'm gonna go with the rs, since it has most of what I want, then I'll just scratch up the tails and the front fuel filler(since according to the pics on hlj, its just a gas cap on the hood, and not the prototypical piece where the fuel filler neck is actually there. hmmm decisions, any clue as to whether the rs kit comes with a spoiler-less deck lid too?

I've built a number of 911 EM's and have seen most of them.
Unfortunately you're going to have to buy all three kits to do this car unless you want to so some creative scratchbuilding to modify some parts, and you'll still need to come up w/foglamps unless you also buy the '73 rally car. There's not enough shared parts in any of them to accomplish what you're looking for w/o getting all three kits. You will have a treasure trove of spare parts after the build.
I'd use the 911R as the starting point and add the 73 RS front bumper/corner lamps. I'm unsure how visually distinctive the 74 3.0 engine is vs. what's in the others, but the kit has rollbar, racing seats etc.
From the spares you could build the '74 RS 3.0 to depict what Porsche sent to the US for the IROC cars; they were delivered w/the '73 RS ducktail from the factory before being replaced stateside by a longer-than-factory whale tail. You can use the headers from the 911R, perhaps the intake trumpets too.

The 73 RS only comes w/ducktail decklid. I would start w/the 911R. Then I'd either buy the 73 RS for the front bumper/turn signals, or modify the 911R front bumper/turn signals. The 911R comes w/headers not seen in the other kits.

Well, I hope these pictures can help. I built this car using the '74 911 RSR. I've built some of the enthusiast kit aswell, and I had find little difference among them, at least speaking of interior, chasis and engine.

That could not be further from the truth, but if your reality is little plastic parts in a cardboard box, then yes. The 3.0 of this period was a completely different block. But Fujimi chose, for obvious reasons, to use the same block.

What a surprise! I know the owner of that car, and we share the same shop for most of our cars' work. We've driven a couple of rallies together (different cars, same day I mean). In fact, we were both on the same run from which those pictures came.
Please post updates and final photos. I know that Peter and the shop--TRE Motorsports--would be very interested, especially as the owner of TRE is a scale model fan as well.
On to models: I too have considered building custom 911 kits more in keeping with the cars I drive/race with rather than strictly period correct kits. I've got four of the enthusiast kits, and plan to start the rally version next week. This'll be my first kit in nearly twenty years. A warm-up, before I start trying to customize. Plans include attempting fiberglass engine shrouds like on the 935 kit, slide valve induction, twin plug engines, 1968 R correct interiors, front-mounted oil coolers and lines (like this car has), transmission coolers, etc.
As above, the 3.0 case was a major step forward from the 2.7 MFI motors. I don't remember what kind of induction Peter's car has. Is it CIS? That's what most of the 3.0 motors were built with. If so, you might have to source an even later kit to get the correct motor. If it's carbs or MFI, an earlier kit will probably suffice.

Gray, got your PM and answered it, but I figure I'll post a little more info here for the potential benefit of other 911 fans/builders.
Firstly, if the Fujimi 911R kit is *truly* accurate, it'll be a short wheel base 911, which would disqualify it as the basis of this replica, as it is a long wheel base 911. However, I highly doubt Fujimi actually re-tooled to accomodate the difference. I don't have the R or any other pre-69 Fujimi kit. Does anyone know if the tub molds are different and accurate?
I don't have any of the kits next to me right now, but my memory is that they don't have any of the extra oil-cooling plumbing necessary to reflect not only this car, but the RSs and RSRs in general, which all used either front mount oil coolers or fender mounted oil coolers. This particular car has front-mounts with the standard right side rocker panel line installations, using factory black lines--not the braided steel lines. The only AN fittings are up front at the actual cooler.
Gray's subject car uses a stock 911SC motor, which means a 3.0 with CIS induction, which means he actually has to buy yet another kit to be truly accurate. Whether or not the case molding is a continuation of the Fujimi 2.7 molds is beyond me at this moment, but what's on top of them is more important as far as being faithful to this car goes.
The roll bars are modern light weight reproductions of the original RSR bars, so those might have to be sourced from the RSR kit.
The seats are original non-stock Recaros. Those will be hard to replicate.
One general note about all the Fujimi 911 kits I noticed: they call for flat black on the spring plates (the flat plate that connects from the torsion tube on the chassis to the hub on the end of the rear trailing arms). On almost every version of the torsion bar 911s, those should be a gold color. Technically, they are zinc-coated steel. Many of the nuts and bolts on these cars were--and are--zinc or cadmium coated, hence the color. Also, while on the subject of trailing arms, up until '74, most were steel, and painted black--and also shaped slightly differently than the following aluminum ones, which are bare aluminum.

Pieter, thanks for all the info in this post and the pm. I've just checked hlj and the 911r kit is in stock, just waiting on 2 sets of wheels to come in stock then I'll get this paid for, this will get put up in the closet while I work on my Ferrari's and some others, and get more money saved up for the next kit to purchase, the 73' RS.

They need to be that high on the 914s in order to work, due to the dirty air created behind the cabin by the roofline. There seems to be consensus that 3 inches above roofline is the minimal working height.

Well I want to thank everyone for the great help, esp Kevin for the parts...you rock man. I ended up buying the 911r kit and I have to say its really great, nice set of race headers, roll bar, period race seats and all the proper "R" parts. I also got some RS parts from Kevin so that I build my dream 911 "hot rod". I've been looking on Pelicans board and the R Gruppe site and have been downloading pics like crazy of different Rs's, R's, RSR's, SC's and Carrera's. I've decided i'm going to build a few now and have the 74 RS 3.0 on the way and i'm going to buy a few more. Now my next question is..does anyone make or has anyone made a set of decals for the RS longhoods....I know speedline makes a set for the IROC cars that strada sports sells
