auto locks

I'm gonna be purchasing a car alarm with remote starter functions and I believe you need the power locks to actually function in order to get it to work. The previous owner somehow disconnected the power locks and I have no idea what he did, also I have no idea where to start looking. In the door panels I see some cut wires but I don't know the wire colors of the door locks or anything, or even all the possible components. If anyone can find anything on this let me know.

I would start color matching and connecting wires to see what they do. Last owner probably didn't want the doors locking themselves.

are you referring to wires that go to the power locks and window panel being cut?

The wiring harness that connects to the door (you can see it when the doors opened its near the hinges) theres a couple of wires that are cut from the harness. I don't know what the wires are used for. Everything else works so I'm assuming it's the locks.

Also, how many components are there in the power lock system and where are thay? Maybe I should check them to see that they're working.

what year is your car and do you have factory keyless entry? Reason i'm asking is I can explain to you what to look for from my wiring diagrams.

I have a 94 SL and last time I took off the rear quarter trim on the driver side, I'm pretty sure I saw the factory keyless entry control unit, so yes I think I have factory keyless entry.

according to the diagram, the wires going to your driver's side switch are Brown with a blue stripe to unlock and a brown with a white strip to lock. Are those the color wires that are cut?

I see a blue with black stripe and a white with blue stripe cut. Are they different colors with keyless entry?

No they are all the same. My guess is that they didn't get cut on purpose but just broke because of age. It's real common for that to happen. Just reconnect using real good grade butt connectors and check the rest of the wires for splitting.

Well when I bought the car I was told they were disconnected on purpose because of the auto locking, but I wasn't told how. I'll attempt to recconect them though and see if that works.

those wires would be the ones to your speaker in the door, so your probably not getting any sound out of that speaker.

Other components to that are involved with the circuit are door lock power relays and the door lock actuators which i will have to get back with you on that because its late and i'm about to fall asleep at the computer.

e doors are wired with aftermarket wires, but anyways... I guess that eliminates that option. I'll check the relays and actuators next.
