98 achieva trans problem?? U tell me.

ok. a guy a work has a 98 achieva with 3100 motor and auto trans. i want to buy it from him but he told me that when his daughter went to leave work the car wouldnt move in any gear, so he towed it 2 miles home. he thought the trans went out. i went and looked at it and was confused. i put it into park and it still rolled very easy like it was in neutral. i've had many bad trannys and they still shifted into park. so i guess my question is. Is this normal or is it not the tranny? any help would be great.

if you roll it with the hood up can you see if the cv-joints turn? if not, you have a brocken cv joint. if it does than it is your transmission that is bad. could be the parking pawll, linkage, etc. either way something is going to have to be replaced.

If it rolls in Park, I wouldnt buy it :grinno:
