Same here. I'll be driving with the AC on and it will suddenly kick into heat and will stay that way until I pull over and restart the car. Dealership said it would cost around $350. I am planning to order a repair manual and see how difficult it is. GM at it's best.

The actuator is not too hard to replace, It just requires some dexterity from the passenger floorboard. Its the one in the center, bottom. If I recall it's about $55 from GM. Get the new wire harness at the same time, as the originals have bad crimps...

That truck was available with dual climate control. There is a pass. side temp actuator and a driver side temp actuator. The driver in on the bottom in the center of the dash. The pass. side in on the top. Kinda behind the radio. Both are known for causing this kind of problem, but the one that is acting up will set a trouble code in the HVAC controller. It takes a scan tool to retreive the code. If either actuator goes out (or sets a code) it is possible to cause the other one to mess up. Make sure you are replacing the correct one or the condition will still be there. Also, make sure you disconnect the battery for a while, then upon reconnecting the actuators will re-learn the arc of travel. This usually takes a minute of two and make sure you don't press any buttons when this is happening or you have to start over again. Hope this helps.
