my taurus is a 92 gl 3.0 v6 with power windows and locks. no keyless entery. what size speaker is in the door? is it a 6in
and can anyone tell me where to get the factory addon for the keyless entry.
ive seen it before but dont remember where. i cycled my key in the ignition and the locks did nothing so i assume i dont have keyless entry. where would i find in the car the keyless entry module. thanks again you guys are awesome

They are 6x8, with a max depth of 3 inches. Not sure of your budget but the Pioneer TS-A6871R are known for working very good in the front doors. You can buy a 6x8 to 6 inch adapter but by the time you add it to the cost of the speakers you'd be paying more than just getting a good pair of 6x8 speakers.

can anyone tell me where to get the factory addon for the keyless entry.
There is a website that sells factory add-on units at discounted prices, and even factory replacement remotes and programable keys, but I don't have the URL handy. I'll look and see if I can find it again.

the front door speakers are 6.5 in is that 3 in depth correct. or is that 3 in depth for the rear speakers.

No the factory speakers are 6x8. If you see 6 1/2" speakers in there then someone else has already replaced them with aftermarket speakers. Should just slightly less than 3" depth, but 3" can be 'persuaded' to fit. They will be the same speakers in the rear UNLESS you have the system with the built in sub. Depth is not really an issue in the rear. The 'Mach' system is basically 4 sub/mid with two tweeters up front.

My recall is that the stock front door speakers in my 1993 SHO with the JBL system were 6 1/2 inch (round) speakers, so I suspect the same in 1992. Back in 1992, Mach was not an option. The "premium" system was the JBL system.

I suspect you are thinking of your 2004 Taurus rather than of a 1992 Taurus such as what jjh1976 is referring to.

Wow, thanks for picking up on that Shorod. I was indeed thinking that they had a gen 4 taurus :p A 1992 Taurus would have 6-1/2" front speakers and the rear deck speakers would be 6x8". They had four different spund systems for that car; 2 were JBL variations, a generic AM/FM, and a AM/FM with Cassette.

Ford doesn't list a programming procedure for the 92, only starting in 93 for the Taurus.

I completely ignored the keyless question, sorry.

On my 1993, the keyless entry module was located under the package tray in the trunk, on the right (passenger in US) side. I'm not sure if it is in the same location in your 1992, but worth a look.

thanks mytaurus8achevy and thanks rod. i bought a set of six and a halfs and they fit perfect in the doors. then i replaced the rear deck speakers with the 6x8. ithink im going to try to shoehorn a set of 6x9 in the rear.
i had a bunch of people telling me the front door speakers were 6x8 but all i new that they were round. and they didnt quite measure 6.5 in.

the 6.5 i bought were roadmasters with a 20 oz magnet and there 3 ways.
there two 4ohm speakers wired in paralell coming back to the amp at 2 ohms and they rock for 20.00 dollar speakers.
im gonna buy some infinity 6x9 and wire them the same way.
again thanks fellas i finally got it figured out.

Are you using the stock amplifier? If so, I wouldn't suggest leaving a pair of speakers wired in parallel and powering them off the factory amp. It is not intended for a 2-ohm load and you may overwork it and blow it. You'd be better off wiring the speakers in series for an 8-ohm load. The factory speakers are either a 4-ohm or 6-ohm voice coil if I recall correctly.

i rewired the whole stereo system. aftermarket amp radio and speakers.

Okay, then if your amplifier is listed as "2-ohm stable" you should be okay.

I have a 1999 Taurus and I was just wondering if the rear speakers would also be a 6"x8". Since I tried putting a 6"x9" and they did not fit:banghead: , only in the middle hole that there is between the two speaker. So I wanted to know the right size so that I can finally upgrade my sound system. Thanks

yes there known as 5x7or 6x8. they are both the same speaker.
roadmaster makes a good 6x8 with a 20 ounce magnet.

cool.... did u ever hear of the speaker brand Pyle??? and if it is any good or reliable?

jjh1976

and my amp is 2 ohm stable. and it is getting hard to find amps that are 2 ohm stable. i guess because the amount of power they put out with less resistance is burning lesser amps up

they used to be pyle drivers back in the day. they are decent now but if you are gonna get serious about it then you will need a better speaker. if you are just replaceing factory speakers you should be good.

so you would think its better a pioneer or roadstar like you said? i was thinking of keeping the 6"x9" and just making the holes bigger with a saw or something

jjh1976

well what the factory has there is tuned for a 6x8. and you can get just as good of sound from a good set of 6x8 and not have to hack up the back deck. but thats just my opinion

Pyle has been around since the beginning of time. I think Henry Ford used Pyles in the Model T  If your speakers are in the rear then you can just use a 5x7 to 6x9 adapter and save yourself the trouble of cutting. Most people that 'cut' do a somewhat sloppy job because they rush it, and then the speakers aren't sealed correctly and any benefit that they might have had is lost. The adapters will get around this problem for you. All things being equal the Pioneers will probably sound better than the roadmasters or Pyles. Of course price is a big factor too. The Infinitys should sound good too, but they'll probably need an amp to make them come alive. The last time I looked the Pioneer and Infinity 5x7/6x8's sounded every bit as good as the 6x9's. The 6x9's can just handle a little more power. After all, it's only about an inch bit of difference between the two, and your ears won't detect that small amount of difference. Good luck with whatever you choose :)
